iDVD without a Superdrive

Does anyone know how to upgrade your Superdrive firmware, without removing it from a G4 tower? I don't feel like unscrewing my brand new tower (even messing it up), just to upgrade to a new firmware. Do the Pioneer firmwares decrease burning time?
