View Full Version : ATTN:Unibody MBP runs notably BETTER in Windows 7

Thats right, you read it here first. The unibody macbook pro performs astronomically better in windows 7 by comparison to its native OS X counterpart. One of the major issues is the ****...no i mean **** wireless driver that is absent/replaced by a full 802.11n broadcom driver in win7. Essentially when I run any decently seeded torrent, well before i reach full throughput on my mac, if i open a webpage, my "connection" gets ****ed and i have to turn my wireless option on and off and it starts up again. This has been a persisting problem since this computer was released, and i have now wasted hours fiddling with this ******** to no avail. I install windows 7 and not only do i see a top speed 2x as high on the same torrent (im talking like 2.4 megs by comparison to 900k) I can also load as many webpages as I'd like simultaneously with 0 hiccups. HD video decoding actually has hardware acceleration in Win7 and it is now notably more stable (on par with OS X imo) with an even better/faster application termination process than OS X...AND WIN 7 is designed for the world's hardware configuration. Apple cant even manage to ****ing design an OS to specs that they KNOW in advanced properly. This disgusts me and I hope to see an update soon that actually utilizes the full potential of this (relatively) expensive machine. Until then, I will be typing my posts from win7 :D

If you had problems with your machine, why didn't you take it to Apple to get fixed?

because there is absolutely nothing wrong with the hardware. There is something wrong with apple's hardware crippling drivers  Isn't that the whole point of this post? To show that with using different software I get a NOTABLY better experience. No apple store g00n is going to write me some drivers on the spot or fix an OS now will he? Apple needs to stop crippling their hardware just so they can un-cripple it later and charge more. It's gross and it needs to stop.

Interesting. OSX is still miles better than when I installed windows 7 and I am still pretty sure xp is even faster than 7. No I am not buyest towards OSX as a gamer I will defend windows till my last breath but for tor. web browsing playing music and most importantly using PS, ID and Fl OSX kicks ass !

That one is easy to explain, you got faster seeds ... it happens.

Did you use the release candidate? My observation isnt opinion, its a matter of fact. Win7 uses the broadcom chip at FULL 802.11n spec, OS X does not, and it shows. I couldnt tell you about side by side application performance differences because the apps are written for different OS's and thus behave differently from the get-go. I can tell you that in win 7 i can use CoreAVC w/Cuda to watch 720p.mkv's that are decoded by my nvidia 9600m gt instead of my CPU, meaning i get 5%ish cpu usage when decoding (and the playback is buttery smooth) As opposed to my OS X counterpart where i will reach 100% cpu usage for sure and the playback is jittery, "macroblocked" and washed out from the beginning. This is the case in both VLC and MPC in os x. I don't know man, apple just needs to step their game up. :p

Windows 7 is just the same as OS X in terms of internet speed for me. I have no drop out issues and my torrents go full speed where possible (i.e. seeders ratio/me not being capped by Virgin).
But yeah, you aren't going to get anywhere with a narrow minded attitude.. if there is a problem with your Mac, even a software glitch, how about trying to fix it/looking into the issue than just saying, "Apple sucks. OS X sucks. Windows 7 is miles better."
Not denying Windows 7 RC is looking awesome, but you are being a tad narrow minded.

http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/windows-classic-linux-other-os/136376-new-windows-broadcom-300-mbit-nvidia-drivers.html Its the difference between 130mbit and 300 mbit. More than 2x the difference as i was saying, and it SHOWS in actual application too. I didnt even know about this until i noticed the difference in performance and started looking into the cause of why it was happening. The nastiest part is when I was sold this computer they told me it supported 802.11n and I followed suit and bout an "n" router...months later I download the release candidate and I finally unlock the potential of that hardware. EDIT: AND WHY WAS MY OTHER POST DELETED? Kilamite, your being narrow minded, you are ignoring the facts in favor of sounding nice to apple/it's fanboys. You are flat out lying, WINDOWS 7 is NOT the same as OS X in terms of internet speed for you, just because you didnt look into it and things "seemed" to be the same, does not mean things were working the same. Thats like saying a p4 runs as well as a c2d because both of them boot windows just as fast. Oh, and this is nothing new, apple has been NOTORIOUSLY bad with drivers since day 1, this should come as no surprise to most of you hXc apple cats.

How is calling someone a liar a personal attack? It was a fact, he did lie, he proclaimed that his internet performance was the same when it simply wasn't. I wasn't saying that being a liar was a bad nor good thing nor was I trying to attack anyone, just trying to get the facts out. If anyone was making assertions regarding "personalities" it would be him as he's the psychologist trying to box me up as a "narrow mind." Im all about knowledge man, I made these posts to widen minds, not narrow them.
