Hi,

Up for sale is an essentially brand new iBook straight from Apple. Not refurbished or anything of the sort. Used for about a day (battery was calibrated) and then restored to factory default after I decided I wasn't going to use it. Specifications:

• 768MB DDR266 SDRAM (256MB built-in & 512MB SO-DIMM)
• 60GB Ultra ATA drive
• Combo drive (DVD/CD-R)
• AirPort Extreme Card
• Bluetooth Module
• Keyboard/Mac OS X - U.S. English
• APP for iBook - Enrollment Kit
• 12-inch TFT XGA display
• 1GHz PowerPC G4
• ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 w/ 32MB DDR video memory

EXTRAS:

* Three years of AppleCare Warranty
* Bluetooth Wireless Mouse

All told, this is about $1825 retail from Apple, not including tax. I'm selling for $1650 including shipping in the USA OBO. Again -- this thing is as close to brand new as you can possibly get.

I apologize for being a first-time poster with no feedback whatsoever, but I have excellent feedback on two other places I can think of:

* Head-Fi (http://www5.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=23344) (a forum dedicated to audiophile headphones)
* eBay (http://cgi2.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=minja)

Please get in touch with me via PM on this forum.

Thanks!

- Chris

I really need to sell this. Offers, anyone? Is my asking price too high?

is it BTO? is that why you can't return it to the store?

good luck with your sale... though you must understand that even new, etc., it's not easy for anyone to just drop $1600.

any reason you decided to buy the machine but then not use it?

BTO = built to order

apple will accept returns within 10 days if the machine is not BTO, for 10% re-stocking fee. considering the pain of trying find a buyer and paying for shipping/insurance, returning is probably the best way to get rid of a (really) new Mac rather than selling it.

It has to be BTO. A 12" iBook has never come stock with a 60 GB HD.

yeah, BTOs cannot be returned. He upgraded the HD, RAM, and added bluetooth and AE, so this is BTO and thus selling is the only option to get rid of it. $1650 is a good deal when you consider the upgrades, applecare, and brand-newness. Good luck finding a buyer.

Well, he did say make an offer... But to be honest, for all you get ,that's a fair price, imho... assuming it's in the condition he say's it is I don't think you'll do too much better looking around...

Yeah, it was built to order. It is quite heavily upgraded, so it's not a slouch.

I don't really know why I bought it to begin with. I figured I was going to use it for school, but after I got it, I realized pretty much all I'd do was take notes with it.. and I couldn't justify a one-point-eight-grand note-taking device. (I'm taking my desktop PC to school with me.)

I do think I'm selling it for a very good price (it seriously is BRAND NEW - I used it for about five hours then reinstalled OS X on it to wipe my settings) ... so if I can't sell it at this price, I guess I'll just keep it.

It just seems a little unreasonable in price, even with the upgrades, versus lets say a 12" PB. I wish you luck, because the machine is worth that kinda money if you broke the math down, but sheer price->performance ratio is down. Good luck, hope this excellent book gets a good home!

Wait, is it worth that kind of money , or is the asking price unreasonable - make up your mind...lol... j/k... Hey, I don't even care, I don't have a dog in this fight, but put everything this one has, including Applecare, on a 12" PB & it will be alot more... You can't compare his machine to a stock PB, that's not fair, imho....

LOL, you got me there. I was referring to the machine's worth as a result of the individual parts. I believe if the machine were dropped to about 14/1500, it'd sell fast. BTOs are great machines, just not too great for resale value since not everyone needs those custom-tailered options when they mostly come stock in a PB. Not really flaming him, like I said, if it were more competitively priced I'd jump on it.

Feel free to comment, but please, lets keep this civilized :D

LOL... Civilized it shall be- ho-hum ;-)... I see your point about BTO's & resale ... I guess I'm just partial to this one because it's probably how I would configure an iBook...

Heh, I actually decided to keep it. (Learning OS X is pretty tough, esp. from someone with a Windows perspective and ZERO Unix knowledge) I am looking to get rid of the Bluetooth mouse, though, for a multi-button wired one. I think someone PM'd me earlier but I'm afraid I deleted the message. Get in touch if you're interested.
