I love how everyone is complaining about how they signed a contract, and now AT&T is being unfair to them. You signed a two year contract. AT&T subsidized your phone. Stop complaining. Its simple business. Some people are even able to upgrade for cheaper. Does anyone remember the original iPhone for 600?
What happens next year when Apple ends up switching to Verizon and AT&T's contract is up with apple. Half of you will be complaining that you signed another two year contract and the other half will be laughing your heads off that everyone else rushed to pay extra and get a two year contract.

Thats my 2¢

Or if you have a FAN discount (certain ones) you get a 1Year plan.

My brother bought a HTC Fuze (And various other phones a year and a half ago).
The HTC Fuze was in about November.

We are all (4 lines) upgrade eligible.

i realize this thread will most likely get deleted, but i would like to add this: No one can force you to upgrade your phone except yourself. Don't blame apple for lowering the price of the 3G to $99 (blaming a company for LOWERING prices?!!).

Don't blame apple for releasing a new product that you can't have because of a contract with AT&T (or other carrier). The only person you COULD pass blame onto would be yourself for signing into a contract, but then you would realize without signing into a contract you wouldn't have your iPhone right now.

And, no one is "ripping you off", it's 100% your choice to sign a contract with AT&T, it's your choice to upgrade your phone, etc. No one is forcing you, except yourself.

Lol. Good point.

I'm not one to complain though. I know I'm signing a fresh new contract on the 19th and if the new phone next year is WORTH leaving AT&T for. . .Then i will suck it up and pay the ETF and move on with my life. Some people should do just that and stop complaining ;)

+1
I been saying that in a few threads. What other cell phone company whould do this? NONE!!! When I had my LG Voyager it was $199, if I wasn't eligible I would had paid about $500.00.

Although you were unnecessarily harsh, I do agree that people need to stop complaining about the contractual terms that they AGREED to when they signed their contract.

If you didn't like the terms, you shouldn't have signed up. You knew it was a 2 year deal. It's not like upgrade charges are a new phenomenon with wireless companies. This has been policy for years.

You signed a contract, now live up to your end of it.

It's an expensive piece of technology. Don't let the $199/299 pricing fool you. Without the subsidy, the price would be much higher.

People are annoyed at the fact that last year most carriers offered early upgrades to current iPhone owners, and this year they seem to not be, which means a hell of a lot of people have gotten really excited about this new iPhone only to realise it's either wait your contract out, or pay a hefty ETF.

I also assumed there would be an early upgrade option this year too. I'm gutted that I'll have to wait, but to be fair, we are getting most of the new features with 3.0 anyway, so it isn't that bad. Plus if you need video recording in the mean time just jailbreak...

Thanks for pointing this out to the idiots out there that just dont understand, and expect somthing for nothing.

Also, 3GS is a minor update not major.

There was no early upgrade option. Original iPhone owners (me) paid FULL PRICE for the phone- $399 or $499 (EDIT: or was it $299 or $399? I can't remember what I paid for my 16 GB). We were allowed to upgrade as soon as the 3G came out because our iPhones were not subsidized. The 3g's are subsidized- you do not fully own your 3G UNTIL the end of the contract.

I understand the subsidizing of the 3G iphone, but what I don't understand is this:

If we're paying $699 for the 3GS, which I assume is the no commitment pricing if you're a new subscriber, why in the world does an existing 3G customer need to pay $699 *and* a new 2 year contract? Doesn't it make more sense to just keep your current contract?

You people seem to not understand. You started with an unsubsidized iPhone, so of course you could get the subsidized price of the iPhone 3G. Now that you used your subsidized pricing and signed a new 2 year contract, you cant get another subsidized price after 1 year. You must pay the UNsubsidized price of the iPhone 3GS! What is so hard to understand about this?

Dude, I understand what you're saying completely, but to a lot of people this wasn't obvious, which has led to the annoyance over not being able to upgrade this year.

Agreed. Don't like the prices, don't buy the phone. It is really quite simple.

Sorry, I didn't catch the fact that you were explaining how other people felt. I thought you were "one of them" ;). Of course, I totally understand the annoyance and feel for "them".

I agree you signed a two year contract knowing that there would be new phones prior to the end, as long as they lived up to their end live up to yours. If your provider lets you upgrade hey thats nice but it shouldn't be expected.

Same as the whining that they didn't change the phone enough, it called recouping your investment, they need to sell enough to pay for the development and make a profit. Apples is in business to make money, it's not a non-profit firm dedicated to giving techno-geeks a new revolutionary product every year.

Besides wait another year and the upgrade will be worth it, 4G will be the big update.

Posting a reply for the purpose of calling other forum members names or insulting them is out of line. In case it wasn't thoroughly clear, creating a whole thread to do the same is likewise not acceptable.
