To all the whiners, how are you going to feel next year, if you got your iPhone 3GS now? Are you going to whine next year when Apple OBVIOUSLY will have a new spec for the iPhone as well? Are you going to complain that you should be able to get the 4th Gen for the same price as those who are new or have expired contracts? Just curious.

Of course they'll whine, they will every year because the universe has personally screwed them over.

Why shouldn't they? It's all part of the overinflated sense of entitlement. ;)

Actually, Apple said this is the last model iPhone they're making.. Since it's the BEST iPhone to date, they're going out on top..

That what I would like to know too. The cycle will never end. Some of these posters are living in dream land, suggesting that apple update the phone to coincide with their upgrade eligibility.

Well, I think we all know the answer to that. Every year, no matter what kinds of upgrades are available and were available the year before, you will get whiners. End of story. It's just the nature of the game, and will be so long as Apple upgrades their iPhones every year while AT&T (or any other carrier) offers only two-year contracts with their subsidies. The best thing to do is just ignore it and be happy with what we have.

Because people's behavior doesn't change all that much and they tend to react to a given stimulus in the same manner.

yes they will
and they should
a year is plenty of time to cover a subsidy, especially at the prices they charge for plans (sprint can give an unlimited everything plan for a good price, why cant ATT?), and by allowing us to get the upgrade price after a year locks us in for another 2
either that, or charge us the full price because we're "not eligible". but if your gonna do that, then dont force us to sign a 2 year. one or the other ATT, Not both
If I end up not being able to get my subsidized pricing until march like they say (even though i got a 3g on launch day and upgraded from an iPhone, which supposedly makes you upgrade eligible in 12 months instead of 18), then i sure hope the "4G" iPhone is on multiple networks. Because I'll be leaving ATT at that time

Exactly! Apple OWES them everything. Can't make everyone happy. don't like the cost, go get another phone then.

We should hold onto all the "I want a subsidized iPhone!" threads and the like so that this time next year, we don't have to start new threads; we'll just continue off of the current ones....

youd think theyd at least make an effort to keep past customers coming back, instead of being greedy and going straight for the new customers, and the new customers only.
people who have been loyal to the iPhone since day 1 are being cut off

How about offering 1 yr. subsidized plans???? Since new phones come out yearly, it makes sense...rather than forcing people to wait 2 years to upgrade...

Nobody is forcing you to wait 2 years. I purchased a T-mobile dash for $100 (subsidized) in 2007. In 2008, I wanted another phone and purchased a treo 680 for $400.

I won't whine . . . I live life for TODAY. I may be rich next year so price wouldn't be an issue :D
Besides us original iPhone holders were mad and didn't upgrade last year when we could have. . . So maybe next year they will allow everyone to upgrade at the cheapest price :)
Then people would cry and say it's not fair - this is a repetitive cycle.

Then everyone will be pissed because either the phones would be too expensive or the monthly rates would be too high.

What is the point of this thread? You're 10 times worse then the whiners now. Get a life.

It's a lose-lose situation...
If they offer 1 year plans, the phones would probably be priced around what the early upgrade prices are.

I haven't bitched about anything and next year I will do the same thing I did this year.
Sell my current Iphone to buy the new Iphone, and probably pay an extra 100.00 or so for the upgrade, plus another year of service.
No big deal.

That might make sense if I ever owned an iPhone. I own an iPod Touch and that is why I'm a member of this forum. Good one though.

I don't think you'll have to buy it full price next year. Wont you be eligible for a subsidized iPhone.

I would only be mildly upset if they increased the storage to 64gb. Everything else is trivial right now. And then I would gladly wait another year to buy one.

Uhm. Have you seen the state of Sprint? Would you buy stock in that company?

I don't remember ever seeing that 12 month nonsense. It's a two year contract. They are being nice and /giving/ you six months already! You got the 3G subsidized because you didn't get the first iPhone subsidized. Just like any other provider that puts out money, they lost money when they essentially bought you a phone. Now they have to make that money back, plus enough to pay for your use of their network, plus enough to pay for upgrades to their network so that you won't bitch so much, plus make enough money to pay the support reps whose time you waste bitching about not being able to upgrade, and then eek out a few pennies to make the stock holders feel like this whole iPhone thing is a good investment.
