When are people going to stop crying about this? This is nothing new, iphone owners complaining need to grow up.

The funny thing is that they are going to need alot more than the current 6400 sigs to get anything going. Let me know when the entire east coast is complaining and then maybe att will be inclined to change (even though the current prices are more than fair imo).

People need to get over it and either pay the price or don't get a new one. It's not that hard to sell your old phone and use that money to purchase your next one. It seems like iPhone owners expect to be able to get the new phone every year at the cheapest price even when they are under a TWO year contract; that just isn't how it works! Don't get me wrong, I'd love to be able to just simply upgrade due to being an existing iPhone customer, but it's just not realistic. And, correct me if I'm wrong, but this problem only seems to have arisen in the case of the iPhone and it having a new generation brought out each year (meaning no other phone has caused this problem).

They signed a 2-year contract knowing the updgrade dates. Why are they complaining now? They should've started all the whining a year ago.

Hey, I know. I'm going to trade in my leased car early in order to get the new model. I've only fulfilled half of my obligation. It won't cost anything extra will it?

Definitely not... but if it does, Solution = Cry about it on a Twitter petition.

People need to get over this. I'm pissed too. BUT. Most of our contracts even end AROUND WWDC 2010 happens and around June that year = New iPhone. So be patient like I am. Jailbreak iPhone 3G? I don't like the fact of jailbreaking but that's a good alternative to people not wanting to buy the new iPhone..

I already got my phone pre-ordered with AT&T, and I only have to pay the $299. I got a deal.

I signed it, more for the fact that people are being given multiple different dates of when they can upgrade. Cell phone companies in general are very shady about this and I think that is unfair. It will be interesting to see how many signatures this gets just because Apple and AT&T can look at it and see how sales numbers may have been different.

******* the phone company, hit em where it hurts, the wallet. Last contract I buy on o2, been with them since they were bloody BT Cellnet, never have they taken such a pig nosed attitude towards their customers. Its like old BT are back.

I think there are two key issues behind all of this:

1) Pretty much anybody who signs that petition is a whiny little #%@*) who didn't read his or her contract. AT&T is doing absolutely nothing wrong by charging people more if they aren't done with their two years. The whole point of that contract is to guarantee you're getting paid back for the huge price cut.

2) That being said, AT&T (and everybody else) needs to stop it with caving to whiny customers in these situations. There needs to be a firm cutoff for when people can qualify for upgrades. If someone around got a deal for the 3G S at $299 (for 32GB), then people who are in the exact same situation and have to pay more have a legit reason to raise hell. It's just like the BS I had in court where I got an $80 fine for something I didn't even do (trust me, they don't care), while some guy on his second or third time in there who got a lawyer got a $26 fine.

If there's one thing people can't stand, it's being treated differently for the same exact thing. That's where the "equal work, equal pay" thing came about for women many years ago. This is why I can't stand it how my boss slacks off more than I do, takes 18-hour lunches (OK, 2-hour), yet I think he makes twice as much as I do. That builds up huge resentment. I could go on and on about that, but AT&T and others need to stop caving if someone is just b#%@hy enough.

I hear what you are saying, but thats hardly the case here. There is no clear cut divide . The community is figuring out the parameters, but so far its not different than the credit beaurus who use their own little formula to calculate your score.

Its just too involved to be cut and dry, but at the end of the day any enterprise is free to set their own prices and deem favoratism to whoever they want. Now, you have iPhone customers from all over the place, those on family plans, those on single plans, those with unlimited minutes vs. the cheapest plan, those with multiple iphone lines, those with the 3g from launch day, those with the 3g from two weeks ago, those with fan discounts, etc etc. People are posting just dates and nothing else which is fueling outrage. For all we know it could be based on religion, zip code, number of kids etc etc. But until ATT fesses up or the community figures it out, people are (unfairly) assuming that ATT is picking this stuff out of a hat and putting it down the pipeline, which if true is silly.

Oh man, you nearly got me started on credit bureaus. "You have too much credit but not enough credit."

I agree about all the factors, but each individual line has a contract. I'm on a family plan and have been waiting and waiting to get the phone I wanted. I skipped the 3G because it was a crap upgrade for me 2 months after getting the original iPhone. My contract ran out in September, so I've been waiting for now to see what new came up. Lo and behold, a lot of hardware got polished and the software looks suh-weet. I can upgrade, but even if my parents wanted to, they're still not eligible because their phones are newer.

There are the other factors you mentioned, but it seems that AT&T should be able to put out some master list on upgradability. But the deal is if you haven't finished your two years, don't count on magic.

We already had one of these threads. It got closed down for ugliness.

I want you all to know that I've sent my support to these companies receiving your onslaughts of outrage on these matters. I did that because I am in awe of the entitlement complex so many of you are exhibiting. What is the matter with you lot? It's a goddamend gadget. It's not the end of the world if you can't get it exactly when you want it. You signed contracts for your subsidised phones, and guess what, you are bound to them. That's how it works when you're a grown-up. If you cannot get over your yuppie hard-ons for this newest thing, pay out your contract and bend over. Quit whining that it's unfair, it is perfectly fair.

You seem to care a lot, since you can't seem to let go of the fact that we simply share a different point of view on this.

And I can state my opinion however I like so long as I am not breaking forum rules. It's you who is taking it so personally and having a go at me.

Why! I don't understand what people's problems are. It's simple: You can't upgrade and get the discount price if you are already in a contract. What do people not understand about that. It just aggravates me.

You are missing the point O2 have allready changed the upgrade cost for exsisting customers we understand the contract it is not about that, it is about the fact O2 should give their customers a fair price to do so!

Yes i do care about the issue not the thread 1000's of people feel let down by O2 that is their right, they read and signed the contract like you keep going on about, it does not mean they agree with it! they have the right to complain about it so people like you should respect that

Before the iPhone came along nobody battered an eyelid about contracts and stuff, they just waited till it was up and upgraded to a better phone. Why all the fuss over the iPhone? O2 are under no obligation to give their customers an early upgrade privilege just because its an iPhone. You don't have to upgrade - no one is forcing you too.

I don't understand the issue here - you enter an agreement for X period of time, O2 massively subsidise your device on the basis of your income over that period of time.

Why on earth would they suddenly decide to loose 3,6,9,12 months of income on the device for absolutely no gain, then providing you with another device which is massively subsidised and then face the same issue in a year.

There is an argument perhaps for them to offer 12 month contracts so its more in line with the product cycle, but I suspect the cost to the consumer, i.e. subsidy divided by 12 rather than 18 months, would make it unpalatable to most consumers.

But that's not the issue, the fair price is exactly what you signed up for, you end the contract, you pay up - simple as. It's exactly the same policy as any of the other networks would give. There is no such thing as a free lunch.

Please for the last time IT IS NOT ABOUT THE CONTRACT OR WHO IS RIGHT OR WRONG! we are simply letting O2 know that we are not happy period!

Clearly it's not about who is right or wrong OR the contract.

Oh and for the last time, if you keep posting thread after thread about this, you can surely expect dissenting opinions. No harm in that.

The funny thing is, you all say you're so unhappy, but then go out and pay the money to get the new phone anyway. The way to get the company to change their prices is to not buy the new phone. Regardless of what people say in a petition, paying the cash to O2 tells them that you are happy!

they read and signed the contract like you keep going on about, it does not mean they agree with it!

Sorry, but that's nonsense. If you don't agree to the terms of a contract, then why would you sign it?
