do i have a 2nd or 3rd gen ipod?

I bought it last july, and im not sure what generation it is, i hope 3rd bc i had a pc and am about to get a mac. all of the buttons are touch sensitive if that helps.

if the control buttons are around the wheel, then it's second gen.

if control buttons are in a row above the wheel, then it's third gen. if those buttons light up in red, it's third gen.

if it's all touch sensitive, my guess is that you have the third gen.

either way, you won't have any problem using second or third gen with a Mac... (even if it was used with a PC before...)

If its first, second or third generation then you will have absolutely no issues. :)

It sounds like you have third generation anyway.
