I am trying to purchase the iPhone 3G for the price of $199. I have the Apple gift card right here in my hands, it's value is at $199. The problem.... I don't have AT&T... so obtaining the phone is proving quite tricky.
BOTTOM LINE: If you're planning on buying the 3GS, PM me, or email me. I have a proposition for you.

I plan on buying one but I'm not about to buy one for you.
You want someone to buy their iPhone for $199 and sell it to you?
Why not just buy from apple yourself with your gift card and sign a 2 year contract.
You smell fishy.
It sounds more like he wants to buy your existing iPhone 3G for $199, then you can use it to get an iPhone 3G-S.

Jesus... here:
My old iPhone 2G is broken. I don't want new contract stuff with AT&T, I just want the 3G... not even the 3G S. Apple will let me trade in my broken 2G for the 3G if I pay them $199. The problem is: I can only pay them the $199 in the form of the Apple Giftcard I already have. They won't accept this form of payment. So my proposition is that if you're going to buy the iPhone for $199 (if you're going to be a new AT&T customer or if you're an existing customer eligible for an upgrade), I am interested in trading the gift card (with a value of $199) for $199 actual real dollars . There's nothing for you to gain... it just helps me get the new phone.... because other than that... I literally have no other means to pay the $199 for the upgrade to 3G.
Hope this clears things up.

AGOS, NIGERIA.
ATTENTION: MACRUMORS MEMBERS
DEAR MAC FANS,
CONFIDENTIAL BUSINESS PROPOSAL
HAVING CONSULTED WITH MY COLLEAGUES AND BASED ON THE INFORMATION GATHERED FROM THE NIGERIAN CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY, I HAVE THE PRIVILEGE TO REQUEST FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE TO HELP ME DO SOME SWAPS FOR AN IPHONE 3GS (BRAND NEW) INTO YOUR SWEATY HANDS. THE ABOVE PHONE RESULTED FROM AN OVER-INVOICED CONTRACT, EXECUTED COMMISSIONED AND PAID FOR ABOUT FIVE YEARS (5) AGO BY A FOREIGN CONTRACTOR (STEVE HIMSELF). THIS ACTION WAS HOWEVER INTENTIONAL AND SINCE THEN THE PHONE HAS BEEN IN A SAFTEY DEPOSIT BOX AT THE CENTRAL BANK OF NIGERIA APEX BANK.
WE ARE NOW READY TO TRANSFER THE PHONE OVERSEAS AND THAT IS WHERE YOU COME IN. IT IS IMPORTANT TO INFORM YOU THAT AS CIVIL SERVANTS, WE ARE FORBIDDEN TO OPERATE A FOREIGN ACCOUNT; THAT IS WHY WE REQUIRE YOUR ASSISTANCE.
THE TRANSFER IS RISK FREE ON BOTH SIDES. I AM AN IPHONE PROFESSIONAL SWAPPER WITH THE NIGERIAN NATIONAL PHONE CORPORATION (NNPC). IF YOU FIND THIS PROPOSAL ACCEPTABLE, WE SHALL REQUIRE THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS:
(A) YOUR BANKER'S NAME, TELEPHONE, ACCOUNT AND FAX NUMBERS.
(B) YOUR PRIVATE TELEPHONE AND FAX NUMBERS -- FOR CONFIDENTIALITY AND EASY COMMUNICATION.
(C) YOUR LETTER-HEADED PAPER STAMPED AND SIGNED.
(D) $100,000,000
(E) YOUR 2G IPHONE
ALTERNATIVELY WE WILL FURNISH YOU WITH THE TEXT OF WHAT TO TYPE INTO YOUR LETTER-HEADED PAPER, ALONG WITH A BREAKDOWN EXPLAINING, COMPREHENSIVELY WHAT WE REQUIRE OF YOU. THE BUSINESS WILL TAKE US THIRTY (30) WORKING DAYS TO ACCOMPLISH.
PLEASE REPLY URGENTLY.
BEST REGARDS,

Smells fishy...
Nothing in it for the person doing the deal...in fact...their money gets turned into an even less usable form of currency...ie the Apple Gift Card.
Why would they refuse to accept that as a form of payment...they should...I would talk to a manger.
But, maybe you say it has $199 on it...Apple says it doesn't?
You mention nothing about a contract in your explanation.
Just sounds like someone trying to con someone out of $199.
How much did they say it would cost you to get the 2G fixed? Perhaps you should do that instead of trying to upgrade.
