You can't be serious!?
If you like looking at other people's HDD space then why don't you just zoom in on their desktops in the Desktop thread?
Seriously, who gets a kick out of looking at HDD space?
Useless thread, hope the mods delete this...

Maybe because I like to see what others have for HD space. If you don't like it don't post, just stop crying. Also you can hide your hd's from showing on your desktop!

Its not an OSX machine but anyway here goes...
http://powerthings.com/pics/drivespace.jpg
Drive C: is a 147GB 15,000RPM U320 SCSI for my system and installed apps
Drive D: is a 36GB 15,000RPM U320 SCSI for swap and temp
Drive E: is a 500GB SATA for data or work in progress
Drive F: is a 500GB SATA for backups such as system images..etc
Network drives are shares on 4x500GB residing on my dual PIII server. Server has a 1TB backup drive which backups up important files so I dont count that as my space...

how do you get it so you can see how much space you have on the desktop underneath the HD icons?

Finder/View/Show View Options check the box to show system info or something like that.

Was it weird that when I clicked your attachment, and then when I wanted to close the window, I hit your red x instead of Command W or the X of Firefox?

a newbie question, how do I get the info under my drive icons to display the drive size and used space, All I have at the moment is the drive label, under the icons, and how do you get the icon text to show up at the righthand side of the icons rather than underneath.
Thanks

Well this is weird...but ok. Here's a snap from my main editing rig.
750GB Boot drive (switching to an SSD this weekend)
2TB Internal for FCP Scratch
4TB Internal RAID for iTunes
2x8 TB Drobos for archiving, etc.
I also have a 2TB drive attached to my Mac Mini theater and a 2TB drive attached to my bedroom AppleTV as well as a 1.5TB drive in a Sata Dock for Time Machine.

Idk, I just couldn't do a RAID 0 in a laptop personally. Hard drives are fragile, and depending on two to function perfectly with that much data stored on them just seems risky. I would gladly RAID 1 my 500GB HD in my MBP, or have 2 independent drives, but tying them together is not something *I* would personally do in a portable device.

Yes, it has its trade offs. I found the single-volume storage space and slightly increased performance to be enough of a reason. I don't need partitions, so it works great.
If one goes bad, everything is gone, but I will only be down for the amount of time in a day it takes me to wipe and clone from a backup, which is no worse than if I only had a single drive which went bad.

Optimus is the main Apple drive. Megatron is my Windows Boot Camp partition of that drive (Megatron because it's evil Windows, of course).
Jazz is a 1TB used for Time Machine.
Ironhide is a 1TB with some random media and files on, the storage drive basically.
Bumblebee is another 1TB drive used for iTunes only.
