View Full Version : Can I return my 3GS completely? (no exchange)

I was wondering... can I bring my iPhone 3GS back to the store and get my money back? I understand that I will have to pay a restocking fee, but I don't care.
My other question is... What will happen to my contract? Will I be able to revert back to my old upgrade date (Feb. 2010) or will I have to wait until Nov. 2010 because I upgraded early already?
This is all confusing to me. Basically what I'm saying is... the iPhone 3GS was a mistake and I'd like to take it all back and pretend it never happened.

I'm guessing your update date will now be the 2nd anniversary of your 3gs purchase. They won't roll it back.
If you're before your 30 days (or is it 14?) then you should be able to return it unless you bought it at a store (like best buy) who might have a different return policy.

Really? Are you starting another thread on this?
If after the 14 days I doubt you can return it at all. Can you? If you can then yes, a restocking fee you will pay. Did you buy from AT&T?
Your contact will not revert back to the old upgrade date. You made a decision to return the device, your contract still stands but your data plan can be cancelled.

Drama.

When I returned my 3G within the 30 day period I got my upgrade back, granted, I was eligible for an upgrade, I didnt early upgrade. I paid my restocking fee, got my upgrade and old plan back, and got the 3GS a month and a half later.
EDIT: Couldn't you have asked this in your "Omg I'm having a breakdown" thread?

I'm sure that they will revert his contract. The only reason it was extended is because of the subsidized phone. When the phone is returned there is no reason to be in an extended contract. For example when a customer has provided the own equipment (cell phone) there is no contract required, and the customer can be billed on a month to month basis.
And really, why are you asking a bunch of Mac geeks this question? When a 5 min call to customer service with get you the official answer, instead of a bunch of guesses from us. Call them, that's what they are there for.

Dude, I have come to the conclusion you have serious issues. You need to sell all your phones and computers tight away.
Sorry my signature failed.

I just talked to a man from the Apple Store and he said I can walk in (without a genius appointment) and return my iPhone without paying the restocking fee. Also, he said that it doesn't matter that it's already been swapped out. Then he said I can call AT&T and have them revert my contract back to the way it was before the iPhone 3GS.
Cool. I think I'm going to do that.

Technically, no. They locked my breakdown thread. Hehe.

Dear Mods:
Is there anyway that we can lock Spaz permanently? I mean just lock him like you did his breakdown thread? ;)

I think you should start selling T-Shirts with your thread titles on them. Maybe
list the first post in each one.
You will make a million
