So, after jailbreaking with Redsnow, I tried using these instructions (http://www.iphonedownloadblog.com/2008/08/04/how-to-add-ipa-apps-to-your-iphone/) to try and get some free apps happening.
Everything went fine until I ran into step 14:
Place the patched file into the /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileInstallation.framework folder and set the permissions 775 for the patched MobileInstallation file. If there is some type of extension (ie .dylib), then you need to remove that extension
I used AppSync to patch the file (as the site said to) but I couldn't find the patched MobileInstallation file to remove the .dylib extension from.
I tried rebooting anyways, but the phone froze on the apple screen...I suspect it's because I did not remove the extension from the patched file.
Can anyone who has done this before with AppSync tell me what I'm doing wrong? Which directory does the patched file from AppSync go to?
Oh, and I'm using Cyberduck to SSH into it.
Any help would be fantastic! Thanks!

Don't think you will find help on piracy here.

ermm....ok...jailbreaking and unlocking help are ok tho right?

One is unlocking the features of a phone that YOU own and that are already there.
The second is depriving someone of money for their work by taking software that isn't free and you haven't paid for.

And if you say ... "well, I wasn't going to buy it anyway" ... then don't use it.

Oh please...
Yea, you own the phone, but AT&T (or whoever you use) own the rights to provide service to your phone.
Unlocking your phone or tethering illegally from their bandwidth isn't taking away from them?
The people who return phone after phone because of the slightest imperfections (looking at Spaz and Mavis) aren't taking away from Apple?
Spare me the sermon...like you've never ever downloaded or streamed a song/movie/tv show before?

No bashing intended so no one take this the wrong way. On some levels its all probably a little wrong but we are in the iphone hacks forum. If you don't want to help him no problem. Maybe someone will send him a pm giving him the advice he needs. I'm just saying. Can you walk into Apple today with a jailbroke phone and be ok because you payed for it. I don't know and don't want to find out. I've paid for plenty of apps, music, videos and so on. I'm also using a jailbroke phone which the designer of does not support. I own it so I do with it as I please. If something happens to it as a result of my jailbreaking it then I will bite the bullet and pay for another one. Just my 2cents but what do I know I'm a newbie.

Exactly. I know what risks I'm taking by doing this stuff and if I brick my phone, I'll pony up the cash for a new one...not come on here and ask people ways I can get Apple to replace it for me.
There's enough people who hack their phones to warrant a hacking section on this forum.
If you want to be all "OH NOES! You're hacking the BAD way, not the good way!" then either find a forum that doesn't discuss hacking at all, or just read and move on. Because really...nothing you say will convince me to not do what I'm doing...

I own the hardware, that means I can do do what I want to it. If I want to JB it so I can change some sounds and the background images or anything I like, then I have the right to do that on MY device.
I tether with my provider legally, since they offer it on my data plan.
People like Spaz need help, but they're not taking away from Apple. Apple just refurbishes it and re-sells it.
In my younger days I downloaded music, but that's not me anymore, the music I stream are from public streams that are made available through proper channels.
I'm not a harsh critic of Piracy, but there has to be a line drawn somewhere. people have become too complacent with Piracy, it has become too commonplace, like it's ok to do. People shouldn't be asking in a public forum for help pirating software.
So find somewhere else to ask for help about Piracy.

So, let's say you had something go wrong with your phone and you had to bring it in to Apple...would you restore it before you did?
Probably. But why? It's YOUR phone right?
Because, in Apple's eyes, what you did broke your agreement with them.
Those public streams you're using...are they paying royalties to the artists? Are you sure? Positive?
To your eyes, what I'm doing is more wrong than what you're doing.
I'm ok with that....you go on pretending that what you're doing is more "just" than what I'm doing.
Just don't preach to me about it.

Preach, sermon ... in your eyes you think I'm being Mr. Morality?
However I'm not, I'm just saying as it is. If you haven't paid for the software, you don't have the right to use it.
I think you're getting hacking (tinkering to make something work the way you want to) and software piracy(using something you haven't paid for that isn't free) mixed up. The two are not one in the same.
I paid for the hardware, I am able to do what I want with it. If I mess it up due to my hacking, then shame on me. I suck it up and move on to craigslist and get a new phone. Would I return it? No.
If it's due to legitimate hardware failure, they yeah that's their fault

Jailbreaking your iphone breaks the EULA that you 'agreed' to with ATT and Apple.
Not saying it's worse than appsync and 'stealing' software but jailbreaking isn't really a legit thing either.
Just sayin. :)

Ok. Fine.
Technically, I haven't pirated anything yet. And my original question was how to hack/tinker my phone so it doesn't freeze at the Apple screen on startup after I hacked/tinkered with it using a certain method.
If you can't help me with this hacking/tinkering then move on.
BTW - jailbreaking and unlocking are not hardware hacks...you're hacking the software. Never really heard of anyone hacking hardware...unless they were doing so with an axe.
