I believe I am suffering from an iPhone addiction / am completely obssessed with it. Every night, I will clean my 16GB 3G without fail, making sure every side is perfectly clean and without fingerprints before I snap on my case. However, the next morning when I get up, I have this obssession that if I mistouch 1 spot of the touchscreen , I get agitated and start cleaning my iPhone all over again and making sure that I press every target/ key accurately.

Do I have a problem and what help should I get? Pls advice

Whoa. You really have to press the icons in the center?

That is some OCD stuff my friend.

I wouldnt say its an addiction. I think you are just a little OCD. The iPhone unfortunatly brings the OCD out of people, that with other phones would be more relaxed. There is nothing wrong with wanting a nice looking phone and cleaning it, its a problem when it interferes with your life. I think you'll be ok.

I really am starting to think there is a massive and lucrative market out there for Apple OCD therapy…

The way I treat my iPhone would probably give you a seizure.
In fact right now it is lying on my desk, flung carelessly, face down () half under a pile of paper and a mug of coffee hovering nearby.

What can I say, except. It's a phone. :o

But it has already been a year+ and I'm still the same. I even have to read the Apple Ad : " Revolutionary iPhone" before I can shut off my Mac. Do I really have a problem there? :(

Honestly, you probably don't really have any real problem except a possible need for attention.

It's just a phone but if you firmly believe you have an issue I strongly suggest seeing a professional instead of seeking psychological advice online.

Ill answer this question without sarcasm in hopes that you arent trolling for attention. OCD is "obsessive compulsive disorder." You read about it here: WebMD: OCD (http://www.webmd.com/anxiety-panic/guide/obsessive-compulsive-disorder)

Wow. I don't think you should be discussing this with us, but rather your doctor. Do you display this behavior with anything else in your life? You car, laptop, etc?

Nope, I'm not trolling for attention, because I really need to do something about it. Thanks anyway, gotta book an appointment to meet a doctor / specialist then.

I display it with my new 17" Mac. I'm always cleaning it, babying it and even once, wearing gloves to use it. It's obssesive but I can't seem to stop it.

P.S: I'm not that picky but I subconsciously am becoming a perfectionist it seems.. :(

Well, again, if youre not seeking attention and you think you have a serious issue that warrants professional help, kudos to you for taking the next step. Hope everything works out.

No it won't. If the OP is that obsessed with touching the right portion of the screen and cleaning, it won't fade with time.

To the OP, relax and just come to terms with the fact that you have a phone. While we all like to take care of it, and at times "baby" it. All things being equal, its just a phone.

yea. tks for the advice. i have never done that with my n95 or ipod touch, but when it comes to more expensive :apple: products, i start to baby it excessively. This is really going out of hand, thus i m refering myself to a specialist or doctor tmrw morning. any other suggestions?

I think I'm going to take that advice.

To the original poster... get a few scratches in it and crack it a bit and you'll stop caring about keeping it brand new looking. I know what you're going through... I'm pretty obsessive about my iPhone as well. I'm going to try and control it though... I don't think I need to go as extreme as getting a doctor to help me though.

A&E has a great new show called "Obsessed" all about OCD, to the extreme.

I believe that you can watch some episodes online at aetv.com.

It seems that major OCD issues start with the smaller things so its probably best to get it fixed asap.

I washed my first new car every few days when I first got it. That lasted about a month and then I noticed a small scratch and said screw it. Things are meant to be used. We pay big money for toys so you might as well enjoy them to the fullest. Next year at this time you will be selling your 3gs probably and is it worth it to baby it for a year to make a few extra bucks?

I say screw it (not literally please) and enjoy it!

...and actually - over cleaning (as in an instance with a car) only wears down the protective coating, can affect the lifespan of the paint job, etc...

The first ding is always the hardest.

And I'm not obsessive at all - but I do take care of the phone (it's my first phone in a case and screen protector). I pretty much beat the crap out of my treo and then my two blackberries.

I'm the same way, I take care of my iPhone but not obsessively. I have a PS air jacket and PS crystal film. I also use a switcheasy colors case and a iSkin revo2 from time to time but I love the simplicity of the air jacket/crystal film combo.

My old razr was a different story. It was run over twice, dropped from a moving car and finally died for good when I snapped it in half after the speaker went out.

If you think you need help, definatley get it... however I'd also recommend getting insurance! Single best thing I ever did for my phone, now I dont give a crap about it. $25/year with a $25 deductible, covers EVERYTHING, damage, theft, etc.... Spilt beer all over it this weekend, didn't much care, mind you it came out fine...

I am so over the infatuation with my precious Black 3GS 32GB iPhone, as it sits in its X-Stand, with its Incipio Ultra Feather Case beside it, displaying the 100% Battery Icon, while sitting in its own light from a specially designed lamp that exsentuates the very essence of my 3GS.... Clearly you have some money(or filthy rich). Why don't you just buy another one when it gets scratched?:)

Jokes aside, I think it's normal to be obssessed about your gadget for at least couple of month. I still clean my 3G with alcohol every other day.
