I kept my phone in my swimming trunks (a deed that should be punishable by death) so that no one would steal it. I then proceeded to hop into the pool and was in for about 30-45 sec before i decided to check any texts.
i wasn't able to get home until about 2.5 hours later and then immediately submerged it in rice. AFter reading some other forums my iPhone 3GS is now sitting in a bag of rice and one packet of silica gel. Does the fact that it's a 3GS make it any different from the other iPhones in terms of water damage and protection?
Please help.
and i know i'm a dumbass, i don't need any posts confirming it :)

Nope, you are screwed...unless you got really lucky and the thing works after the rice treatment. But that's doubtful.

Wait.
You kept your phone in your trunks so no one would steal it and then went swimming in said trunks but you have some feeling the 3GS is somehow waterproof unlike any other electronic device of it's kind and you want to know if it will still work?
I'm really confused about leaving it in our trunks and then getting in the pool. Why would you not leave it out of the water?
I think your post sounds like total crap, no offense but no one can really be that oblivious.

I think the stories with the "my iPhone got wet" theme are hilarious, personally. It's amazing how stupid people can be, especially when "durnk". That is meant with a kind of affection, by the way, since I've pulled my share of clever stunts while in that condition. There's probably an element of Schadenfreude in it, too. (It wouldn't be funny if it happened to ME.)

If your phone doesn’t turn on with the battery charger, getting your phone wet most likely killed your phone. The only thing you can do is take it to the local cell phone dealer and tell them what happened and see if your phone is salvageable. ...

Only you don't want to try that.
Not for about a week/fortnight. You need to leave it in the rice for a loong time.

We have had a number of OP's over the past few days that just want to be ridiculous, for whatever reason. You have to admit, the OP's post sounds farfetched, at least the way he wrote it. For example, he almost sounded like he planned to check texts in the pool. Also, most people would've done something right away, not wait as long as he did to try to get water out of it.
Also, to say jessica is trolling or posts to just see their own words, is pretty unbelievable. She's a fairly respected poster on these forums, where you're what?

I am not really sure why everyone who gets their phone wet must regale us with their story, the advice is always going to be the same; "put it in rice and leave it there for 5 to 7 days; don't turn it on, and no Apple will not replace your water-damaged phone unless you fork out the $199 for a replacement."

Is it really that hard to believe that while one is at a social gathering, one could perhaps forget about a phone in their pocket? I think not, considering there are hundreds of similar threads out there. The one distinction between this thread and other similar threads is that perhaps the 3GS has better results in water
If you're not going to shed some insightful light on the topic at hand no one really cares about how stupid ppl like me are or how many of these wet iphone threads there are. Personally I find it ridiculous you are so offended that you feeel the need to write a totally irrelevant post on this thread. Did you not read the last sentence of my original post???

All right, after having to hand edit basically every post in this thread for some kind of inappropriate content, I think we can call it a day.
1) No, the iPhone 3G S is neither waterproof nor any fundamentally different from previous iPhones with respect to water intrusion.
2) Please report problematic posts, for the love of God, instead of repeatedly quoting them and responding to them.
