maximum ibook ram

Can i put more than 640mb ram in ibook 933?
Apple only recommends 640mb but the ibook can take 1.2gb! why is this and what r the issues with more ram?

from my understanding, 640 is an artificial limit to distinguish the powerbook line from the iBook line

i'm pretty sure you can throw a 1GB chip in there, though they are rather pricey
