Ok, we're all here, walking around New Orleans, having a few drinks, and I 've even got my wife to login in - look for her as DutchessStreet, that's what happens after a few SharkAttacks and a frozen Hurricaine.....

Due to lack of foresight and general stupidity, no one brought a camera tonight, so you'll all have to wait for picks tomorrow.

It was unfortunate the last night as soon as I posted this thread, arn had the site down for maintenance, we didn't get to post anything else.

We're off for some breakfast soon, after a bit of a crazy night, b2tm and MrsB2tm will have to fill you all in on that one.

I have to say its been a lot of fun so far, being a first timer to New Orleans, I really enjoyed going out and seeing a few of the sites, we took a strole down Bourbon St, had a few drinks and ended up crashing early (2 AM). I think Eye wanted to keep going, we'll probably do a little better tonight.

But its a very interesting crowd, if you're in to people watching this place is a must.

One thing that really struck me, since I've never been here before, is that the French Quarter looks a lot like Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. I'll post some pics when I get home to show the similarities.

i just saw this thing in macworld about a geek cruise for macheads next year

we should all go if we don't get seasick...i will have to pass, turning green, but i almost became a navy officer ten years ago because i couldn't get a job in the real world:p

in the end, i somehow stumbled on computers, and shortly after that i fell very ill...i got this strange mac addict virus which has taken over my life and has made inroads into my sex life, too:eek:

I took 4 extra strengh tylenol almost 6 hours ago... they have pretty much kicked it's ass...

Being a tech, I don't go to the beach. That much sun would be harmful to me :eek: :D

I think it was caused by the lack of coffee yesterday, I had some today, but am almost out of beans now. :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek: I will be getting more coffee and beans tomorrow while I am out.

What brand of coffee would you recommend? When on the road, where do you go for coffee? (D-Donuts, Starbucks, etc.)

D-Dognuts blows for coffee... I visit Gloria Jeans for coffee... They have plenty of different coffee beans to buy, depending on what you like.

I typically wait until the pain is extreme before taking something... then the four does the job. :p

what kind of Geekfest would that be...?

we want pics of you with a hurricane in one hand and a lucky dog in the other partying like it's 1999. i rolled through new orleans about 4 years ago on my way to san francisco to go to art school. i have to say it's one of the most magical places i've ever been... where else in the U.S. can you find a raging block party going on every weekend? i was hooked, unfortunately i could only stay for one night before i had to continue my trip westward (school was starting up within a week).

Well, here it is on Sunday. Trying to get everything together. Mine and the Mrs first night was really interesting. At 3:35 the alarm in the hotel next to us went off, and we were up for over 30 minutes waiting for it to go off. Once it did it cycled every 50 seconds. Well, I went next door and had a few words with the manager on duty. Did not have any luck with her so tomorrow I am going to talk to the general manager. I personally think they should pay for our room.

Well when we got back to our room the air conditioner was leaking so we had to move to another room. It was 90 degrees since the air had not been on in there, and we finally fell asleep around 6 am because we could not sleep it was so hot.

We woke up at 8 and started day two. We had some great food, saw some people having oral $ex on a balcony, and saw a great 80's band called the mollyringwalds last night. Just trying to unwind right now, and we will post pics when we get back. I have over 100, and a lot of them are buildings.

HA! You should see Duke! He is around 6'3 to 6'4. The Dutchess is rather tall too. We saw some crazy balcony activities. Did not really take pics of it though. We will get some up though, patience my young Padawan.

This 'geekfest' was a real letdown for the rest of us you know. There was talk of updates and pictures being posted while the festival was in progress, but we have seen neither. Came off more like politians then real geeks, all talk and no substance. :eek: :eek: :p :D

I hope that the next geekfest is much better... I say we schedule one up for October in MA, and have a geektoberfest... :D There are places we could get to all over New England. Hell, we could even make a short hop into Maine for some lobster. :eek: :eek: :D As well as hit the Sam Addams brewery for a tour... and some 'samples' :D

Anyone have a keg tap???? :D

Alpha, dude, you always have to ruffle feathers don't you. Seriously, there are not a lot of places to develop pictures here in the quarter. We will post them, but we are not even home yet. In case you did not know this, geekfest was a lot of fun. We had a blast in fact, you did not come, where not here, so don't bash it if you weren't.

Yea, we did not post that much because we were busy partying and having a good time. Sorry if we let you down or made you think that we were going to come here spend hundreds of dollars, and then sit in front of the Mac and post as we normally do.

That would be crazy, especially for Duke and I because the two Mrs, would have had our heads.:eek:

I thought it was mentioned before that someone was going to bring a digital camera to the fest...

You don't have any CVS or Walgreen's stores in that region?? Most decent size drug stores offer 1 hour film processing you know... We have a camera chain up here called Ritz Camera that has both the 1 hour processing and most have the capability to scan images for you.

For Geektoberfest, there are a few places to do 1 hour processing, and I have a scanner that can do either regular images and/or from film. Makes for some very high quality image captures (2400x4800dpi on either, optically). :p :D

there are 1 hour labs in the French Quarter, but quite honestly...they are not worth the extra expense one would incur...

Duke hasn't made it home yet...B2TM won't be home for a couple days...so let's give them a chance to catch their breath before we get into the pics...

besides...with MacWorld upon us...it would be best to let u guys go nuts over it before we try to compete... ;)

We're back after arising at 3:40 this a.m. to catch our flight. Sorry to have lamed out last night - I was exhausted. Good news is that I did NOT go into work this afternoon. The Duke & I just rented Harry Potter on PPV and are getting 2 other movies. The puppy (Marley) is clean and shiny after her stay at the "Spa". Yogi & BooBoo are very happy to have us back at home! Thanks to the Geekz (F&C) and the Back2theMac family (Mrs. Back2theMac & IttyBitty Back2theMac -- who is precious by the way) for entertaining my hubby last night. I think I had a touch of the New Orleans flu - did not feel better until I slept for about 4 hours total on the plane and when we got home.

Hope ya'll can get to DC soon!

Thanks for showing us around N'awlins. Love my "Biker Chick" shirt. Glad to have exchanged the white shirt for the black one -- it was a little too skimpy! :D

There were a total of 5 members at geekfest (eye, b2tm, mrsb2tm, duke and dutchess) - pretty damn poor showing, considering that New Orleans received the most votes if you remember as the inaugural site of Geekfest - with lots of 'I'll be there's'

If anyone takes any exception to not seeing pictures or calling this a 'letdown' - too bad.

All five of us had a great time - the food was great, the people were awesome, the city provided me with tons of pics (over 150 - flim and slides) which will all be put on PhotoCD as they get processed and be ready tomorrow (the dog destroyed my digital camera, if you remember, last week, so I was without one).

As to when everyone is going to see them, well, after talking with everybody, we're not going to put them out haphazzardly, but all at once on several itools accounts. There will be plenty of entertainment to be had - including, I imagine, some 'specially' processed images - which all of you have seen me do before. :D

So relax, get excited about macworld and let us work on this to do it right. You see them shortly there after.

Oh, and for all the complainers who have more to say - if you're that concerned about it, you could have come and joined us for the weekend - you all missed out. I'm looking forward to Geekfest NewOrleans '03

Yes, we have pics, and we have a lot of them. I have my digital camera, but I cannot get my Mac to see them! I have iPhoto 1.1.1 and an HP 318. I cannot believe this! iPhoto will not see the camera, but my PC laptop will!

We are waiting till after MacWorld to post them.

I went to go get my pics tonight and it seems as though only the aps pics were ready. They were having issues with the Slide Film processor. I'll be able to get them tomorrow, but talk about getting all excited for something and it not panning out.....

The pics were ok - about what you might expect from a Canon ELF, but don't bother asking me for them, I'm going to upload them with all the others.

it sounds like u had a blast... the worst part about N.O. is the drive back to Baton Rouge at daylight....... man it seems like that road just goes on forever and ever.......

I got a great bunch of shots - some of the doors and the mail boxes were excellent - the plants in the alley great too - but when the girls were jumping, the first one showed her panties on the landing - too bad it was a little blurry - that's what happens when you use 50 speed slide film for action shots. One did come out great though - and melanie's close up is pretty good too - have you called her - its been 3 days, you need to move on that soon or you'll lose your window of opportunity.....

I'm designing a package design...I know it's funny sounding...but some local woman has patented 3-legged panty hose... :D

anyway...she's going to China next week for manufacturing...she needed a package design created including redrawing hand-created typefaces & setup for a die-cut...

I'm about 90% done... ;)

That was the plan, but then only 3 regular members showed, two with their wives (who are members too) so officially the first annual GeekFest had 5 members show - we had a great time - next year should be better.

How about you have it in McAllen, TX next year? You could drive down to South Padre Island and soak up some rays on the beach, go fishing on the bay, do parasailing, and tons of other stuff, and then you could go to Mexico, where the drinking age is only 18!!! (I think...) And we could party at the clubs... Other than that, there's not much else in McAllen...
