Probs with internal 56k modem

hi!
I have got som problems with my internal 56k modem in my iBook.
Normally i'm sitting on a LAN network but when I go somewhere else i use the built-in modem. It connects OK but too often i get throwed off the line. Every time that happens I have been connected 2min and 26 secs...
I dont think it is the telephone line becausse it happens at any location.
Has anyone experienced the same or have a soloution??

Are you always connecting to the same access number?

Have you tried adjusting the modem setting to V.34 instead of V.90? Sometimes this helps, as traffic buildup can easily disable a V.90 56k modem's transfer and search. V.34 corrects this problem, but I am not sure if it corrects the problem on your computer. Have you checked the Apple base documents to see if they have any information on problems with dual-up?
