Jailbreak - Decision Time!

Its now or never.
A day old and i'm already thinking about jailbreaking my iPhone.
I need all the input you guys can offer, and hit every question i pose here to help with my decision!

Here we go -

1. I'm on a Mac. I heard redsnow will jailbreak it. I'm using 3.0.1, and i read many times you have to use the 3.0 firmware. WHY? Its unsafe surely. Why downgrade?

2. After the novelty has warn off, is jailbreaking really not worth it?

3. I heard of problems with 3G, WIFI etc. How badly does jailbreaking disrupt neccessary functions?

Info - Using 3GS 32GB, 3.0.1
Only jailbreaking so i can access k'ed apps (using paid apps for free! Yey!). Thats the sole purpose.

1. You have to upgrade to 3.0.1 in iTunes, and then point redsn0w to the 3.0 IPSW.

2. Yes, I like the extra tweaks and apps you can get, I have to be jailbroken, I'm unlocked.

3. I have had no interruptions or problems whatsoever.
