Why Did Apple Change The Phone and Messages Icon

What was the benefit of adding a "crossed texture" to the Phone, iPod and Messages. This makes them seem very out of place with the rest of the app icons. Is there a reason why Apple did this? And don't even get me started on the iPod icon being one pixel higher than the rest of the dock icons..... oh that makes me very mad!

it is extremely distracting and irritating and everyone who uses my phone notices.

That's not even true. It is exactly the same height as all the other icons in the dock.

all of my friends mostly have Blackberries.... with symmetrical matching icons so they look at my iPhone is disbelief that Apple would allow this. I might make the switch...

The stocks app icon changed too... I am not sure anyone really knows. I think you are one of the first to actually complain about them... I know there were threads about the change but I am not sure about complaints. I let my friends use the phone all the time and no one has ever said anything about it.

I just noticed that the Safari icon is 1 pixel higher than the rest on my 2G iPhone. I was so infuriated by this that i threw my iPhone out the window and killed a baby pigeon.

I really feel bad about the pigeon. :(

Umm... all the icons line up now. The iPod app icon didn't line up in one of the very early betas of 3.0, but they fixed it since then.

I just read all those and honestly i'm impressed. It's good to find these little inaccuracies and point them out. The finished product will then look better and more polished. I'd definitely want someone like you on a design team!

News Flash: People are all different. I'd rather have a beautiful looking OS. I think it's kind of sad how sloppy it is.

I've submitted almost all of my findings to Apple directly (since I'm a beta tester) and hopefully they'll fix all the UI inconsistencies that I've noticed.

Right now, I'm running 2.2.1 and living without copy and paste because 2.2.1 is FAST, the graphics don't stutter and the UI is better looking than 3.0. Complaining about how your iPhone works is no different than complaining about how it looks.

I am legitimately upset and disappointed about this seemingly irrelevant to most of you, however it really annoys me. I payed 300$ for a phone and am stuck with it for another 2 years, it should be perfect!

I think at least for anyone interested in graphics (and given that it is something Apple always cares about), it is quite a legitimate question.

As far as the OP's concerns go, I think they're possibly trolling, but I would suspect some of the more graphics conscious members on this site might be bugged by this. I'm not, but some might care.

I may be in the minority but I think the new icons look better. And apparently some of the major developers agree. Take a look at Beejive's latest icon. Or Appigo's Todo. And those are just the ones I have installed on my phone. Surely there's more out there.

I think if everybody follows Apple's lead we'll have somewhat of a solution to all the people on the forums claiming iPhone's OS is tired and needs a revamp.

Does anyone else hear a voice yelling this guys comments in your head everytime you read one? I have such a negative tone stuck in there everytime, even if I don't read the name first. Anyway, I still feel that way ... Why should anyone keep a phone they don't like or even carry two phones cause they don't like the iPhone? I love mine, I'm sure there's a phone out there to make you happy.

I completely agree. It's Apples way to always make fine refinements for a while until one day they release something new and revolutionary... But people whom only have an iPhone as their first Apple product are learning that for the first time.

I like my iPhone but I am not defined by it as most of you are. I like what my iPhone is capable of doing performance wise and I am vocal about its performance draw backs.

Most of you complain about temperature coolness and sim card issues and the like. which is fine, but why are my complaints any less valid? Oh maybe because I am more sarcastic and people can't handle it. Not my issue. If a Mod wants to ban me for saying calling arrogant people Bastards well that is their perogative, however others seem to get away with it... I don't get away with it because I don't hide or slink away after saying it.

Op: your friends are all Blackberry users- that's the real heart of the story here. They are trying to find little things they can nitpick about your iPhone, so they can feel their Blackberries are still superior. If they can, they will try to get you to switch back, so that they can feel justified in staying with the Blackberry.

You decide based on your own experience. Don't listen to them. If you like the iPhone much better, then keep it. If not, then go back because it's what is right for you, not because it's what your friends want.
