ok i'm looking at buying a Mac Pro online and have my mind made up. However if I get it through the student dicount I will save 200$. I use to be in school 3 years ago and still have my expired ID. What is the worse that can happen if apple finds me out? Just pay the difference right?

Apple does check online purchases too. OK, not as much they do in stores or on phone.

I think Apple should add some kinda "check fee" so if you're not eligible to purchase from edu store but you did it anyway, Apple would charge the difference plus "check fee" (maybe around 100$)

The only thing stopping you from trying to do it would be your conscience or maybe in this case the lack of stacked up against the consequences of being caught out. BTW I am not the moral police just an observer

If you get busted Apple forces you to enroll in school and you have to major in ethics.

Apple is based on honesty.

Look at how they sell their software such as Mac OS X.

You could buy the Single-User disc and use it multiple times or be honest and buy the Family-Pack.

It's really up to you. I'd be honest.

Apple in the past has randomly asked for proof ranging from a dated ID, letter on letterhead, class schedule or school tuition bill for students, or an ID, department/school letter or pay stub for faculty and staff (higher Ed here). Several of my students have been asked by email after purchase. I do not know what the penalty was but I would assume pay the difference and a watchful eye on your future purchases.

The worst that can happen? Well you have declared to them a fact and obtained goods based on that fact. The fact is incorrect and you know this to be the case. So the worst that could happen is that you end up in court charged with fraud, get convicted, go to jail with Bubba, come out a broken man, unable to find a job and have to live in the gutter.

It's unlikely, but I think that's about as bad an outcome as could happen from this "harmless dishonesty". If enough people do this Apple will simply stop offering the discount.
