A few reflections:
First of all, Apple seems more a software solutions company than a computer manufacturer lately. Everything is tailor-made for flexibility, scalability, and ease of use. The "digital hub" paradigm is the new Apple war cry for relevancy. Steve is smart here--making speadsheet/word processor/HTML portal devices is a losing proposition. Apple is banking on worming its way into every part of Mac user's lives and increasing personal as well as professional productivity with a minimum of fuss. That productivity increase is why they will be able to ask top dollar for their hardware, especially when bundled with scores of excellent software titles for free.
If the PC iPod works without a hitch, it may indeed be a great Trojan Horse. "Dude, my Dell just crapped out, but I can still jam to my tunes and all my addresses/calendars are safe on the iPod until I can get the Dell fixed." Imagine the wintelbox guy's impression of Apple when his/her iPod is the only piece of hardware working reliably in his home/work set-up.
The Bluetooth 3G phone connectivity is a great idea as well. I used to work for Sprint PCS and having everything backed up when your phone gets run over by a truck is a mighty fine thing. I have it now because my Kyocera SmartPhone PCS/PDA combo gets hotsynched to my Mac daily. Still, it is low-tech compared to 3G phones and networks coming soon.
We didn't see PowerMacs because this seemed to be much more a "consumer" show. But no one is buying PMs until they do the necessary upgrades we were praying for @ MWNY (DDR RAM, dual 1, 1.2, 1.4 ghz CPUs, etc.), so Apple better not make us wait much longer or the "switch" campaign will take on a sinister new meaning for power users.
This show demonstrated that Apple has the right vision and is on the right track. Too bad it didn't give me any reason to buy a new Mac.
