Just about a month and a half ago I bought a used Imac G5 off of Ebay, had to bid on 3 of them before I "won" the one that I got. All in all have been very pleased but now I find out that because the processor is not Intel that I can not upgrade to Snow Leopard and may have troubles in the future as the rumor mills say that Mac is not supporting non Intel machines as they once did. What has surprised me is that I thought that I would have little trouble selling the Imac and recouping most of if not all of my money and go to a New Mac mini. Now it seems that the older models are not selling like they were just a short time ago. I paid $400 (with shipping) for my IMac, then increased the Ram to 1GB from 512, also upgraded from Tiger 10.4 to Leopard 10.5 so now have about $500 into it. What is a good solid price to expect for my IMac and am I better off to just enjoy what I have and not worry about having an non Intel machine?

what's your computer for?
sounds like you're not too hardcore - mostly emails and internet I imagine - you should be fine.

If it does for you what you want it to, and you don't expect needing it to do much more in the future, don't worry about it. Most current Intel macs will not be able to take advantage of the potential improvements that SL offers. In addition, you have a machine that can still run Classic apps (I have a 2009 MacPro, yet I keep a PPC imac around for legacy programs). As for "support", there will not be new features introduced for Leopard. However, Since 10.0, history suggests that Apple will always provide security and sometimes other updates for 10.x-1 where 10.x is the current release of Mac OS X. This means anyone running Leopard can safely use it until 10.7 ships, which will be at least two years.

I wouldn't fret about G5 based computers for at least a couple more years. For perspective, take a look at what G4 based laptops, like Powerbooks, are fetching . . . G4 Quicksilver and Mirror towers . . . G5 Power Macs . . . all fairly respectible on the resale markets.
