View Full Version : AT&T Customer Service: I talked to two different service reps... my story.

Here's a cool success story about AT&T.

Okay, so earlier tonight I called AT&T because I wanted them to switch my "pay as you go" account to a "pick your plan" go-phone account.

Basically, I was using up my minutes too fast because my Mom has been calling me too much lately. After every call, I would see a message displaying my remaining account balance. Not only that, but I have to keep refilling my minutes in order to keep my unlimited texting package… and I have to add unlimited texting manually at the end of every month… what a pain this is. So I came up with a solution. I'll sign up for "Pick Your Plan" which is a steady flat fee of $29 for 200 minutes per month. I can also add unlimited texting and still have a no-contract iPhone. Everyone still with me?

Anyway, I called AT&T up to have them switch my plan over to "Pick Your Plan" and while the guy was setting it up, I asked him if I'd still be able to keep my "data block". The guy went quiet for a little while and started typing stuff. I waited as he looked up the codes for it. He was taking a while and reading various things off of his screen. Finally he came back and told me that it wasn't possible to remove data from a go-phone account. I told him… that's not true because I have my data blocked right now and I'm on a go-phone. He said that basically, they were told that they are not supposed to block data on a go-phone and told me that he couldn't find a code to block data once I ported my account over to the "Pick Your Plan" account. So I decided to give up on switching my plan because I did not want to be charged every time the iPhone decides it wants to use data.

Then I waited for about 30 minutes and called back. This time I got a girl. She was more than happy to fix me up. I asked if I could still have my data block and she said word for word "Hehe, don't worry about that sir". When she was done, she looked at my account and said "Okay, let me see if your data is still blocked… yup, data is blocked and you have unlimited texting and 200 minutes". It took her no effort at all and she was so much help.

Anyhoo… everything is all set now and I'm back in business with no data and a cool "Pick Your Plan" plan. Now I don't have to worry about refilling my account and making sure I call and add a data plan every 30 days. Nice!

The moral of this story is… each AT&T rep can be different. If you don't get the answer you want right away, call again and talk to someone else. Some people know more about what they're doing than others. Let this story be a lesson to anyone else that may have a bad AT&T rep experience.

By the way, I made sure I called from my motorola razor so that they wouldn't get suspicious. Hehe.

Clearly the first AT&T rep was a user on the boards.

That's what it seemed like to me. I couldn't believe that the first time I removed data it was like such an easy thing to do, and then this guy comes along and says it can't be done… what?

Today I had soup from Hale & Hearty. At first I was considering chicken noodle. But then I realized they had one of my favorites as their soup of the month - so I got the Chicken and Sausage Jambalaya. Is everyone with me so far?

After I selected my soup - I had to choose between 7 grain bread, sourdough and oyster crackers. I kept going back and forth and since 7 grain is great but often is inconsistent (they don't slice them evenly and sometimes you get more and sometimes you get less) I decided upon Sourdough.

Since I was having it delivered I needed another add-on since the minimum is $7. Thinking quickly I saw that there was an Apple selection on the menu. I thought how funny and ironic that I have an iPhone and I'm ordering an Apple with lunch. So I ordered the Apple too.

30 minutes later I had soup, sourdough bread an an Apple.

There's really no lesson to be learned here other than if you're going to buy me soup - make sure it's something I'll enjoy or it will have to be exchanged.

Actually Spazz, I can relate.
You won't believe the AMAZING difference between talking to two different forum members!

Earlier today someone asked a question but it wasn't so much of a question as it was a rant about itunes not refunding his money after he willingly allowed someone to make a purchase of three iTunes movies on his account. The problem I had with this post was that the poster was unable to write in paragraphs. Everything was one giant paragraph coupled with giant run-on sentences that made it a bucket full of fail. Even though I said I would not read the post because I could not be bothered to actually get through it, he continued to press on providing a summation of the information and again limiting his post to as few paragraphs as possible and yet including as many run on sentences as possible. While I am not the grammar police I find when you do not breathe in the middle of your thoughts you get run on sentences and the reader grows tired and confused and will often give up on actually helping with a situation that they otherwise may have been able to help. So i asked again and again got some clarification and again the lack of paragraphs baffled me, I was truly confused. But still together we pushed on and in the end I wound up actually telling him that iTunes was right and he was wrong and I am certain that answered was not favored but it was the right answer to give.

Later, there was another forum member who had an actual issue. He presented his issue clearly and concisely lending hand to paragraphs and limiting the amount of fluff in his post. In the end his issue was resolved with only one response from me because I was able to understand his needs and figure out a half decent solution to his issues.

Both of these people do not have data blocks, fwiw.

My post wasn't really a question or anything. I just found it amazing that you can't just call AT&T once because of what ONE rep says… they all have different abilities sometimes and it doesn't hurt to call twice or 3 times just in case you get someone who knows what they're doing.

I'm thinking about calling again because I want to end these "The last transaction cost…" messages after each call.

You know what… for some reason… the other day I was on my go-phone account online and I saw the button to remove the balance reminders and I didn't do anything… now that I have this "Pick Your Plan" account, I can't find that option ANYWHERE anymore.

For some reason AT&T's website directs you to different areas depending on where you came from. For instance, when I used to view my "pay as you go" account online, there were actually 2 different account summaries depending on which route you took to get to the login page. If you go to wireless.AT&T.com and attempt to log in, you'll get re-directed to a "go-phone" login page with options to change features and whatnot, but if you go directly to the official go-phone login page, those options to change features are not there… it's just summary and profile. Hmm…

However, with my new "Pick Your Plan" account, there's only one login page no matter which route I take to get there and it doesn't have any options to change features.

*sigh*

OH MY GOD! You're still using your iPhone?!?! You were clogging up the damn forum two weeks ago about how much you hated the iPhone and wanted to go back to a simple flip phone.

I wouldn't be overly surprised if there are people who work at the AT&T call center who know who you are, and mess around with you cause they know how crazy you are.

What the hell did this post have to do with the iPhone anyway?

So I went out and spent a great deal of money on a pair of trainers. The goal was to wear something that provided more support than my chucks or my rainbows. Being a CA girl wearing flip flops year round is not difficult or uncomfortable but I live in NC now and it gets quite cold. That said, I also realize the benefits of actually wearing a pair of shoes that support my arches or lack thereof. It is also good for my posture.

Ok so I bought a pair of New Balance 850s, which feel fairly comfortable but my right foot feels like the arch is rubbing a bit more and after walking a while it starts to become irritated. I looked into different insoles because when you buy good shoes you can remove the insoles and replace with something even better.

Wal-mart now has this Dr. Scholls thing that essentially will tell you how you stand and what insole is good for you. These actually ring in at $50. That is a lot of money. I spoke to two different Wal-mart workers and the price was still $50 and the data collection was not blocked but it was free. The insoles should be changed every few months depending upon the number of hours you actually wear them.

That being I think tomorrow I may go to walmart and buy these insoles. Combined, including my fancy Nike sport socks that should be used while golfing but because I haven't anyone who is willing to spend that much time with me all in one day I wear them on a day to day basis, I will have just about $200 on my feet. If you include the pedicure I get every 2-3 weeks then it exceeds $200. My toenails are pink right now by the way.

So I guess what I am saying readers is that I have difficult feet and I am seeking optimum comfort. Between the fancy expensive trainers and the fancy insoles found at walmart for $50 and the pedicure that no one will see if I wear trainers, I hope to regain that extra spring in my step with ease.

So I went out and ....

Jessica. I hope you plan on getting a lot of use out of your new footwear. You will have invested a lot of money in them and you should get your money's worth. If you don't - you might feel that the money you spent was wasted and have buyer's remorse. If that happens, you might have to return your sneakers before the store's return/exchange policy sets in. If you decide to keep them, use them. If you decide to return them, perhaps you can find something cheaper and just as good for your usage at payless.

Sep 30, 2009, 10:54 PM
Sam I agree. I do get use out of them, as a matter of fact I walked around the lake yesterday but did not Monday or today because of morning appointments. I'd like to go early but it is darkish and since I have no walking buddy I am forced to go on my own. Either way, I am working through them and New balance is great about returns. I'm pretty sure they're staying.

Now the other thing I bought was paper towels. I don't really like sponges so I use more paper towels than I really should. That said, I used to buy the more expensive brawny but now I buy viva, which is made by kleenex. They're very soft and absorbent and about $3 - $5 cheaper. In this economy I have to be thrifty if I am going to survive. So I've used them now probably a number of times, I buy them 6 at a time because it is cheaper by unit price and I think I have bought this brand at least 4 times. I am rather satisfied.

I have spoken to two paper towel reps and one said brawny was the only way to go based on their data and the other said data was unnecessary and viva was the best. I went with viva.

The end.

It really isn't that amazing. If you call in for our software the support people look into the crm notes, see that you obviously didn't accept the answer, still not happy, and decide to make you happy.

Remember kids no doesn't mean no the first time, it means maybe. Ask another time or two and you might get a yes.

I just think the first guy was clueless because he couldn't figure out what code the previous rep used to block my data. I tried to help him, but he ultimately said it wasn't possible to set a data block on my account.

Then the second time I called… it was really easy to set a data block… hmm. I think the first guy was either new or didn't really know his stuff.

No. It doesn't mean the first guy was "clueless" or even "new." The evidence easily points to that he was following procedure and/or was not made aware of every single code. That doesn't make him clueless unless you are being a condescending know-it-all. And that's apparent based on your "I tried to help him"

And we can all ONLY IMAGINE what it's like to deal with you on the phone as a customer.

Fact 1: The rep before him had absolutely no trouble disabling data
Fact 2: The rep after him had absolutely no trouble disabling data

I tried helping him because he did not know what code the first rep put on my account. I let him know that I "heard" it was called a "WIX block". So that was all I could do.

He could have been just making excuses as to why he couldn't figure the code out by telling me they're not supposed to do that to go-phone accounts. The reaction that the rep after him gave me was "don't worry about that" and continued to set it up with no issues. So yes, I think he didn't have as much knowledge.... I mean, he couldn't even figure out HOW the other rep blocked it.

By the way... he kept repeating "APN2NO" when he was researching it.

You know - if you wind up not using the sneakers as much as you think you would (I know you're using them a lot NOW - but in the future, that might change) you might consider selling them and buying more paper towels. You can get a LOT of paper towels (viva) for what you paid for those sneakers AND the special inserts. Also, I hear there's a new model of insoles coming out. They look exactly like the old ones - but there are more features. You never know if the cut of the insole will be as smooth or fit your trainers as good as your current one - but wouldn't it make sense that it's better? Why would they release something that's supposed to be newer and yet have worse build quality. By the way - you will have to pay full price for the new insoles since you just got the other model. You'd think they'd offer an upgrade price at least. But alas - no such luck.

You could see if one of your friends needs new insoles and then sell the old ones to them and then you'd have enough money for the new ones. The only problem I see with that is that I am sure you customized your insoles and they might not fit someone else's sneakers. Not to mention - you might want to keep the older insoles so you can be sure you like the new ones. Or better yet (are you with me so far?) you could keep switching back and forth between insoles. Win-win!

Whatever you do - don't call customer service. I spoke to a totally clueless rep who said the new insoles didn't exist when I clearly saw an ad for them. I called back 10 seconds later and spoke to a rep who understood what I meant and told me that the release date was mid-October. So really - it pays to call back!

As far as I'm aware, there is no AT&T section to the iPhone forum, yet people still post AT&T questions, comments and promo codes... so what's wrong with an AT&T story every once in a while?

I bet that if someone else posted the same exact thing, people wouldn't have as much of a problem with it.

I was super hungry also. Decided to get a rare fast food lunch. Had a Wendy's double with cheese, ketchup, mayo, lettuce, tomato and onion. I had them hold the pickles because I don't really like pickles. Except those awesome ones you get at the jewish deli.

In lieu of french fries, I got the bakes potato with sour cream and chives. They weren't real chives but what the hell, I rarely eat this crap.

To wash it all down, I chose a Coke™.

After getting my lunch, to go, by the way, I went over to the condiment counter where I selected a matching straw, several napkins and a plastic spoon for my potato. They were out of forks.

What the hell does this all have to do with Apple or my iPhone? I received 2 emails and 1 text while I was waiting on line.

They were out of forks.

Out of forks? Don't the realize what inventory they need? Perhaps a recall was issued on the forks. I've heard that Wendy's forks sometimes have yellowing or sharp edges to the touch. In the past they did NOTHING to fix the issue so I am glad they are taking care of their consumer base.

Im glad they had a spoon - proving Wendy's latest marketing "There's cutlery for that!"

Crap, maybe I can code a "Spork" app! Out of forks? There's an app for that! Scoop it up with your iPhone...

Now for an update: Hit the salad bar in the cafe at my office, had a little balsamic glazed chicken breast. Washed it down with some FRS diet Wild Berry, which tastes like diet Macbook Pro more than Wild Berry.

Must. Be. Careful. You don't want to encourage people scooping up anything to soupy or they're likely to trip their moisture sensor. If that happens - your app is bound to get a few negative reviews!

I've not had any issues with my forks having sharp edges or yellowing. It is a bit disconcerting to me that the gap between the tines are not uniform.

I did that. It unbricked my fork, but when it made me upgrade to 3.1 to do a restore and now I cant jailbreak my fork. When is the devteam going to release purplefork for my iFork 3GS? The "S" stands for spork.

Side note: It was wings day in the cafeteria here at work today. I got 3 hot and 3 lemon pepper wings and some celery. Do you guys like celery or carrots with your wings? I like celery. Please post back with your opinions.

Celery and lots of bleu cheese. Preferably the matte, er, I mean, chunky variety.

Listen UD - you use the fork to jailbreak - not the other way around. Haven't you seen ANY prison movie?

So you have an iForkSpork? I wasn't even OFFERED that by AT&T!!! They suck. Does your iForkSpork have MMS (Multi-Meal Service)? Can you tether your iForkSpork to your plate?

As for your question about celery or carrots - I prefer carrots I think. But that needs to go into a poll. You can't just ask people to post their opinions without a poll!!

Realized I left my camera in the car. Don't want it sitting in the hot car all day. I smelled horseradish in the hallway. They were selling corned beef and cabbage in the lunch room. Strangely no horseradish was being served.

I harte that each AT&T rep is like this.

On Friday night, I got a text on my iPhone running a GoPhone sim stating that I could get unlimited MediaNet for $19.99. I first called 611 and nowhere on the automated system did they offer the unlimited MediaNet.

I called AT&T on Sunday and told the rep that I got the text telling me about the unlimited MediaNet. She said ok no problem and set it up.

I immediately came here and made a thread saying that AT&T was now offering the unlimited MediaNet once again and several people tried to get it added on to their accounts with no luck. They were told AT&T no longer offered it etc. My unlimited MediaNet started today and I've been using it on my 3G iPhone to download music and all kinds of things.

It's amazing how clueless they can truly be.

Use the ignore function.

And that's what amazes me about MR and TheSpaz. People come on his threads to troll, when they could simply click ignore and never see him again, if they so choose. I mean, for those who don't like him, if you "really" wanted him to go away, and you think he's only here for attention, then don't give him the attention and he'll go away! Sooo simple.

Anyway, as far as CSR and AT&T go, I've never had a problem, but I usually find out things for myself. The one time I did call, the CSR told me exactly what ended up happening, "we'd get a SMS when MMS was available." Imagine that!

Oh, and off-topic, I'm in an airport and tethering while I type this. Love it!

Oh, I loved those! I also remember, there was a brand of lollypop/sucker/candy on a stick -- if, when you unwrapped it, you found a special tag wrapped around the candy, you got another one free! Which was great, as the candy tasted like old dirt and cat food, but it was candy!

So yesterday, after not having one for a couple of years, I bought a peach-flavored Snapple.
See, when I was a kid, like in high school, I went through a period where peach Snapple was my favortie drink. I used to always come home after school and have one before I went to hang with my friends, or do homework, or go to practice. But for some reason, it just sort of fell by the wayside in my life. I didn't purposefully stop having them, I just sort of...stopped.
Well, on my way home from work after a long day yesterday, I stopped at the 7-11 on Laurel Canyon and Chandler, which is my favorite, cause the guy behind the counter knows my brand of smoke (I know, not healthy, but whatever) and it makes me feel like that old corner store I used to go to when I lived in Chicago. Kind of that small town feeling.
Anyway, while I was there, I decided to get peach Snapple. I got back to my car and popped it open and I discovered there wasn't a little factoid under the cap anymore!

Did they stop doing this? And if so, why?
I used to like that when you popped the cap off, you got a little piece of knowledge. Maybe something you already knew, sure, but it could have been something that was totally new, and you were learning it for the first time.

Does anyone else feel this way?

Since I know you're all wondering what I had for lunch today (are you with me so far?) I have to tell you that it was a choice between Sushi an Soup. I ha soup yesterday if you remember and it was good. But did I want to have a little change today? Something different? Or would I engage in the same exact behavior?

Well would you believe that I chose to engage in the same behavior. However this time I did NOT order the Apple (sorry fanboys). My boss wanted soup today so I didn't need the Apple (sorry fanboys) to make the $7 minimum.

The thing that I don't like about ordering Hale & Heart for delivery is that they don't stamp the customer loyalty card. That means that twice now this week I didn't get stamps on the card. I think the delivery person should carry a stamp. I don't understand why some reps carry them and others don't. Shouldn't all employees of Hale & Hearty have the same stamps at their disposal?
