I have found several sites that have the cooked 3.1 firmware but these are from unknown sources. I wonder if any kind MAC users on this board would be generous enough to upload the jailbroken firmware?

Edit: Sorry, the custom-Restore IPSW links are not there.
Use Goggle, they are on the internet, but best way is find a friend with a Mac

If those are IPSW files, Mac or Windoze doesn't care, all the same. Use iTunes (option click or shift click) and choose custom IPSW.
If you're asking about JB software tools, Pwnage tool for Mac, Redsn0w for Mac & PC.

So is this the one I'd need for an AT&T 3Gs? The no activation is the proper option if you have AT&T, right? Thanks a lot!

Yes that is correct. It is for a 3GS with AT&T that is already activated.

Does not update the baseband.
I think tethering depended on the carrier settings file, I'm not 100% sure on that.

im able to upload one if anyone else needs a custom ipsw file from a mac...just post setting you need if different from the prior one posted above.
edit....and the 3.1 update has killed the tethering hack as far as i know.

there is already a custom ipsw for d/l posted a couple posts above.
me and jav were just adding that we can custom make one for any pc users....just let us know the settings needed.

Ok. Everything went fine except I don't have a carrier logo (ATT). It shows 3G but not "ATT". How can I get the carrier logo back?

that is a known issue the dev-team is working on.

You can't right now. That is a known bug with pwnagetool that the dev team has to fix.

I can also provide a customer IPSW for anyone that still requires one. I have the one that I built for myself but if you need something specific just let me know and I can upload it to my rapidshare account for your to download.

So what do I do if I updated to 3.1 and have the new baseband? Will this custom firmware work if I download it. I tried to downgrade but can never get the phone to boot. I have my ECID and everything saved. I am getting desperate for a jailbreak again. I will never freaking update to new firmware hastily ever again. This sucks. If you guys can tell me if the link to the firmare on this thread will work if you have already upgraded to 3.1, hence updating the baseband, I would be truly appreciative.

You cannot update from official 3.1. You have to be on 3.0/3.0.1 JB version to use this.
If you had your 3.0 ECID saved to Cydia when that was available, then you can downgrade to 3.0 and jailbreak again, then use this. Otherwise, you are stuck until a new JB is released for 3.1 official.

Yea I figured I was screwed. I can downgrade and get through the entire jailbreak with redsnow but when it reboots it just sits at the apple logo and starts rebooting every few minutes. Its a real pain in the ass. I don't understand why it wont boot. Maybe i will do it all again and after it get's stuck on the boot i'll just try to restore with the custom firmware and see what happens.

Currently the only way to downgrade from official 3.1 is to redirect the itunes signature process through Saurik's server instead of Apple's (which is why you needed to have saved your phone's info to Cydia).
If that is not what you are doing it's not going to work.

Hey, I'm in Japan too. I can send over my ipsw by IM/whatever if you want to try it that way. Tested it on my own iPhone 3GS this afternoon and it works great!

Noob question: do I first need to jb my os 3.0 using redsn0w before I restore using the cooked 3.1 firmware? Or can I just restore to the cooked 3.1 firmware from a non jb 3.0?

With all due respect, if your 3gs is at 3.1 and not JB, it is never gonna work.
Hopefully the DevTeam or iH8sn0w team will come out with a JB took you can use.

You can't use Pwnage tool to get to 3.1 unless you phone is already JB.
