Back in 2003, Jobs publicly stated that he would no longer receive compensation or dividends from Apple. Way to keep your word.

You're mad that the guy who invented the iPhone is getting money from its sales? Really?

No link?

You're upset that the CEO of Apple is making money from products Apple sells?

Did your buddies at the Apple factory tell you that too?

And then he survived Pancreatic cancer and a liver transplant, which I would assume was pretty costly ... Give the guy a break.

It'd be very surprising if the employees who actually invented the iPhone are getting any royalties.

Jobs himself doesn't invent. He hires people who do so, and then he picks out which parts he likes, and which ones he doesn't. He's very good at that.

I wouldn't say that. Him, Woz, and one other guy who baile out really early before silent & private investment invented the personal computer market for mainstream. They had the vision where eerybody else just went along for the ride until Bill gave them a huge alternative.

I'd say Jobs was behind the vision of the guidance of the iPhone - although fans have been ppleadig for it for years. I bet it was Jobs that wanted th basic interface of calling though.

I'm sure he still invests or augments ideas of others in the company so that they're more marketable.

Errr... no. They didn't invent the personal computer market. I would say that Apple was even considered more of an office computer company at first, because their prices were twice everyone else's.

At the same time that the Apple ][ was coming out, so did the Commodore PET and the Tandy TRS-80. Many other home computers followed close behind.

Alright, before everybody starts recanting their personal theories on what went on with Apple before they really took off, please go watch the documentary called Welcome to Macintosh: The Documentary for the Rest of Us. It's a great documentary and I recommend it to all. If you have Netflix, then you can can use the watch instantly feature.

Alright, before everybody starts recanting their personal theories on what went on with Apple before they really took off,

No need for theories. I was 24 when the Apple II came out and had been programming for six years. I was very well aware of the home computer market. I homebrewed my own first computer from bare chips and wires.

I'm sure there are others here with similar histories.

please go watch the documentary called Welcome to Macintosh: The Documentary for the Rest of Us.

As I said, check out 14:30 into that film, where it talks about how most Apple II's were sold with 16K at around $1600. In 1977 bucks, that was a huge amount. It was not a home computer for the masses.

The point is, there were other personal computers for sale. It was just the right time for them to become popular, with or without Apple.

As for the thread topic, I don't see why Jobs shouldn't get comp'd as CEO for all the sales.

No way, the CEO receives money from sales of his companys own product?:D

Do you have a link to prove any of this? Anything tangible... at all? And even if he is (which I admit, he probably is) I do not remember him making any promise to not get compensation (again prove me wrong). And there is nothing wrong with getting compensation because he deserves it.

It is not uncommon for a company's board to offer incentive bonuses (above normal and agreed upon compensation) to key management executives for hitting key (usually financial) goals in certain strategic markets. Jobs is a key part of management. And the goals would have to be really high (compared with the economy) if Apple missed them this year.

But who cares? Compared to Apples growing cash position, Steve's Gulfstream is a rounding error (even though I wouldn't turn down a ride in it.)

Is that why he is listed on the iPhone patent as "inventor(s)?"

Stop the presses, you mean the CEO of apple is gettnig paid a salary and people here are mad because of that :mad::mad::mad:

Lets just start an online petition (because we know they work so well) and demand that he returns his salary. How dare he work morning, noon and night and expect to receive any sort of compensation.

Just because MacGyver didn't originally manufacture the rubber band and paperclip doesn't mean he didn't invent the bomb he made with them.

Just because MacGyver didn't originally manufacture the rubber band and paperclip doesn't mean he didn't invent the bomb he made with them.

That would be a good analogy only if your supposed MacGyver could explain exactly how to take paperclips (electronic & mechanical parts) and make the bomb (iPhone).

But Jobs isn't an electronic or design engineer, nor does he code. He's not a MacGyver himself and never was. He's a salesman and darned good at it.

Jobs hires MacGyvers to make a bomb that's slim and pretty, and then critiques it until the MacGyvers redo it to his satisfaction... then he sells the bomb to millions.

Is that why he is listed on the iPhone patent as "inventor(s)?"

Anyone who contributes to what is claimed (those precisely worded obscure details) in the patent has to be listed as an inventor in order for the patent to cover those claims. If someone said something in a meeting that cause one of the patent claims to be added, tweaked, or improved, that would count as being one of the "inventors".

In a list of inventors, somehow the boss, senior professor, famous CTO, etc., is usually listed first, no matter what the proportion of contribution to the claims.

But IANAL, go consult your own.

I checked iFixit and they say there aren't any paperclips or rubberbands in the iPhone. :D

Someone who doesn't understand the process makes an adequate product.
Someone who deeply understands the product makes an excellent product.

That's slightly more than just being a salesman who hires engineers.
