You need to burn it.. Use disk util. to burn the image to a cd.

I've tried that, when i insert the disk and run the installation i get this error message:
"bootable drive not found - insert drive and press any key"
or something along those lines. :/

What does the folder structure look like if you mount the CD you burned in OS X? Just want to make sure you burned the ISO as a disc image not a file on the disc.

Maybe you'd be better off using something like Burn http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/Pages/English/home.html to lead you through it. Use the Copy tab and drag your iso to the "Drop discs and images here" spot.

wow...so we just accept the guy's word that it's not a pirated copy and go ahead and give instructions on how to install it?

I'm not your mother, but yes, just to save the flaming and the bickering, and also to keep out site honest, yes, if you're describing a situation that any reasonable person would construe as requesting help pirating software, stealing, committing treason, raping, or pillaging, yes, just explain yourself so that there's no misunderstanding. Of course we recognize that there are legitimate reasons to be dealing with Windows in ISO (particularly with Windows 7, but sure, imaginably with XP also).

Although with a previous post like this one from the OP, I can understand why some see this request for help as questionable.

the answer was easy, just burn the ISO, nothing more complicated than that, as an image of course.
your last post, link in this thread, stated that you had gotten XP via a torrent site, you could have easily decided that you needed the real thing for whatever reason, morality, stability, whatever, so yeah, please share the story of how you got an iso of XP.
and as a side note, nothing against you, but if you can't figure out that you needed to burn an iso file as an image and to some extent how to do it, you have no business going to torrent sites and getting pirated copies of anything, you are just asking to be filled with trojans and who knows what else.

:o I guess I just take people at their word too easily sometimes...
That said, Windows licensing is SO complicated that even some of the stuff that seems legit, probably isn't. Like end users using OEM versions, which has become a pet peeve of mine now that Microsoft has made the system builder license much clearer.

If he has a legitimate Product Key what does it matter if he has an .iso for the software? I have a legit copy of windows xp with a product key but the disc is fubar so I dl'd a .iso of Win XP to install in bootcamp. Are people going to cry piracy with something like that?

Nothing wrong in having a Windows XP ISO. You can create as many copies of XP or Vista or 7 as you want. I could burn a copy to disk and mail it to you right now without violating any EULA. You just shouldn't install it without a legitimate license key, which I can't provide. XP also gives you a few weeks (three weeks?) full usage without requiring a license key.

IMHO, you guys can go on and on about how I suck with computer... how i might get trojans from torrenting etc. etc.
I know what i'm doing, and there's nothing you people can do about it.
end of story
(sorry to everyone who was on my side)

I think dejo's got it:
How do I burned disk/shot web =/= torrent or computer pro.
Of course that being said, it's fairly apparent that he obtained XP in OSX, so not a great risk of virus or trojan infection there. Sometimes it's a good thing to be a minority.

I think that's quite enough of that. No more threads about this out of you, and no more complicated-sounds-almost-exactly-like-piracy theories....
