I can probably bench or help you out with whatever you're wondering.

At the moment, I have several games on my comp, among them:

Myth II
Quake 3
Oni
Halo
Jedi Knight II
Jedi Academy
Call of Duty
UT2K3
UT2K4
Warcraft 3: ROC and TFT
XIII
Star Trek: Elite Force
Dungeon Siege

and possibly a few more... I'm not at my Mac right now.

If anyone has performance questions, I can give you rough estimates or maybe do some timedemos, so post here if you're curious.

Doom 3? :D

Just one curiosity:

I see you have the SE edition of the Radeon 9800 in your G5. From which grfx card did you upgrade?
I wonder if Halo has seen a significant performance boost after your upgrade.

I'd like to see your benchmarks on the laptop computer. Thanks for offering.

I upgraded from the 5200FX stock.

Halo saw a fairly decent upgrade. Offhand I can't remember my timedemo benches, but at the moment I'm at 23.7 avg on the timedemos, at 1280x768, high detail, med lense flare, 2x AA, no specular. Frankly, the performance isn't that great. In part I'm blaming this on ATI, for lack of good drivers... furthermore performance has tended to decrease since the adoption of 10.3.4.

Right now I am a bit peeved with the JK: JA performance. The game lags in huge spots... even when I'm not looking at anything at all. It can drop to somewhere around 10-15 FPS and suddenly jump back up to 60+. This I'm blaming more on poor coding, as it usually occurs in places where it shouldn't... my belief is that the program is attempting to draw polys that are not currently in view.

Any particular games you'd like to see benched on the Rev B? It's currently at Apple repair but apparently it's had a repair turnaround of about 2 days! So I can bench whenever I get it back.

How does Halo run on the laptop? I really want to get it, but I'm afraid of bad performance. (Rev C. 17")

Thanks

Could you benchmark Halo, UT2K4, CoD, and Warcraft 3 on your laptop when it comes back? I would really apriciate that. Thanks

Update: I got my Rev B 12" back last nite, so I benched Halo.

I ran several timedemoes on 10.3.5.

The settings were all pretty much the same on each run, with a few tweaks.

Most noticeably was that, like on G5's, setting the processor performance to HIGHEST on Energy settings produced a better result.

At first I ran the test on 800x600 med detail, pixel shaders on, low lense flare, low particle, med model detail, and got an avg of 16.89 FPS.

Then I ran it at 640x480, same settings, and got an avg of 19.26.

Then I adjusted my processor settings to HIGHEST and ran it again at 800x600, and got an avg of 19.67 FPS.

Notice the 3 FPS gain? I'd recommend anyone hurting for game performance to turn your processor up to highest.

More benches on the way as soon as I have time.
