Hopefully this will optimize game performance for mac gamers and bring us closer to the speed of DX9 and PCs in terms of gaming.

I wonder when Apple will update OSX so we can take advantage of 2.0?

YEAH!

The final version of Tiger will almost definitely include it, but hopefully 10.3.6 or a standalone will update it.

There are some huge changes, don't expect it quite so quickly.

Argh. Hate to rain on your parade, but I don't see anything that relates to specific optimisations;

That said, Apple seems to be focusing on games more recently. Examples would be the "secret" games meetings it had at the start of the year, the ongoing re-write of QuickTime's audio side, the inclusion of an OpenAL framework in Tiger. Also, as the OS is relying more heavily on OpenGL, I think we can expect to see performance improvements.

At this point, improvements of just 5fps are welcome in many games. I remeber when 10.3.3 arrived and people had ~10% performance jumps. It was great!
