I just got a 20GB 4th Gen ipod and want to protect as much of the battery life as possible. If I only use it a few hours/day and charge it overnight each night, I'm concerned it will damage the battery life since it was still almost full. Should I only charge it when it's low ( i.e. every other day)?

Two good links from that thread:
http://www.apple.com/batteries
http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipods.html
These summarize it all.
Edit: and the simple answer to your question is that partial charges don't hurt it; i.e.; 4 partial charges which restore 25% of the battery each "count" as one full recharge.
