View Full Version : I used my MacBook Pro to kill a mouse.

We have an unwanted guest in our house. I heard him running around in my room last night, but I didnt do anything about it. Whenever I try hunting the little guy, he just runs into another room or into some hiding spot.

Last night I was using my MBP in bed and I decided it was time to sleep. I closed the lid and went to place the MBP on the floor. When I went to put it down I heard something make a noise and it felt like my MBP was on top of something. At that point I forced my MBP down as hard as a could trying to kill the mouse.

The end result was a minor dent on both the left and right side of my mac (from where i was gripping it so hard). and some scratches on the bottom where the mouse was trying to escape.
:(

Didnt want to do it.

Is this the first confirmed Mac based fatality? I have to tip my hat to you; I wouldn't want the little guy causing damage to my beloved "bad-boy" pro. Have you informed steve of the new found versatility of your MBP?

This would be a good use for a PC tower. Plug it in, put a piece of cheese in it, and leave the PCI slot covers off. When the mouse comes in, the motherboard will inevitably be fryed, taking the mouse with it.

You'd have to have the correct version of Windows 7. Home Premium could handle a mouse, but you'd need Professional for a larger rodent (e.g. a rat). For something like an opossum, don't even think about trying anything less than Ultimate.

The great thing about Mac OS...one version can kill all your household pests.

Why are we skipping the pictures of the squished mouse? If the act is "funny", then the pictures should be fine too.

Just so you know, the neurology of a mouse, being a mammal, is very similar to our own. That's why they are used in medical studies (and then humanely euthanized). The pain this mouse experienced as it's organs and bones were crushed is probably similar to what a human would experience.

It's not the mouse's home. It didn't pay for it. If you want to put the mouse on a human level, the mouse was breaking and entering and posed a threat to the OP and his family. In some states, like Texas, the OP was justified in using lethal force.

Yea I mean it was breaking and entering, plus the OP spent a lot of money to make sure he was put to death by a mac rather than a PC. I mean think about how cruel it would have been to die by a Windows Vista Basic machine. Nice story! Reminds me of when we had a mouse running around our house 25 years ago and my father poisoned it. We saw the mouse hanging out under the Christmas tree barely moving. I guess the mouse took the bait. My siblings and I put it in a box so we could nurture it back to health. My father took the mouse, put it on a chopping board and cut the head off while he proclaimed, "This is the enemy. Don't help the enemy."

That mouse must've already been sick for you to be able to randomly place the MBP on top of it. When I first read the title, I was expecting that you ran after the mouse and threw your MBP at it.

Uh, people, we are talking about a mouse here, right? Like, a run-of-the-mill-ain't-nothing-special-about-it mouse? Plenty of mice are killed each day (mice traps, anyone?). Sure, you can get all high and mighty and say how horrible it is that the OP killed the mouse in the way he did, but I bet you wouldn't want to be sharing your home with an uninvited guest who may chew through cables/walls/insulation. Before you berate the OP for being such a jackass for killing Mickey, think about what you would have done. Would you have really gotten up to fetch a cup or some other tool to trap the mouse for release? Doubtful. Would you have used a wedge of Swiss to lure him to his death in a mouse trap? Perhaps, but even that is not a nice way to die. Not saying this is the way I would've gone about it or that it was humane, but he did it and it's not worth getting upset about. Mice are second-class citizens to us. Bottom-line.

And shambo, you are ridiculous, my man. Every word you type is sheer ridiculousness.

I wish someone would rig one of the lasers you can pick up at www.wickedlasers.com to a servo, write some software to take advantage of the MBP iSight, and then we would have a fully fleshed out MBP anti mouse defense system.

Is it cruel? Maybe; and pardon the pun, but I don't give a rat's ass. I work in animal sciences, and if you guys want to keep eating, I got to keep killing (on a serious note, that is what animal research for food production is all about; growing them quicker, cheaper and bigger).

Sticky traps are more humane, they pull off legs and their skin trying to get away before they die of blood loss or heart attack. But cats playing with them until they die is better.

The entire concept of paying for territory is some made-up nonsense human concept. Green pieces of paper are pretty much worthless without the value we as humans attribute to them, and I'm sure that if you present a mouse with a bundle of $1000 bills he or she would make a nest out of them.

So no dice on that argument I'm afraid. Humans may be brainwashed into believing that territory and green bits of paper have a relationship, but we cannot impose that onto the rest of the animal kingdom.

I think it'd be easier for everybody to agree if we say that ANY way a human kills a mouse without the intention of consuming it for survival is considered cruel.

The problem is that it's a necessary evil because NOT killing it would mean you're choosing to live with a wild animal that can pose health risks to you and your family (droppings in your cereal, bites, dander, etc.).

Yeah, that is pretty crazy. Those people are either incinscere in their views or pretty uneducated if they have such truly opposite views. This is why there are now many companies producing milk and meat from animals treated well - cage free, with a proper diet.

There are other options that you are not considering.

There are many traps out there that are humane. All the OP had to do would be to buy one of these traps. The local humane society might have even been able to provide them. Using one of these would have been a way to trap the mouse without killing it in such a painful way. I'm sure the local animal control could then humanely euthanize the mouse.

I see no reason to euthanize a mouse, as it would probably end up costing somebody to do it. Why not just drive a mile or two down the road and let it free? Natural selection will run its course.

I can't believe this thread is still going. It's a dead mouse. Move along ... nothing to see here.

From their point of view their home was infested with humans.

And yet we're the only ones that can do anything about the other party >=}

You did it for the lulz didn't you? :p

Judging from this post, the OP is a troll and didn't really kill a mouse with his MBP. Also he's probably a /b/tard.

Natural selection already ran its course. The mouse wasn't fast enough to escape the situation, smart enough to avoid a human home, smart enough to steer clear of the presence of the man, nor was it strong enough to wiggle free from the machine.

Awesome post. While I would not have used my laptop, I could not careless about the life of a rodent or insect in my home. I suppose with a cat and a dog, I do not have to worry about either though.

It's shambo--everything he says is ridiculous.

What is so ridiculous about slowly pressing a living, breathing, feeling creature to death when you could easily put a bowl over it and throw it outside?

Disgusting.
