I was wondering when will the next unit come out. I remember when I was going to first buy my first mac pro. I went to the apple site and was going to buy a G4 but right before I hit purchase I had to leave work and I wanted to make sure I had everything in it. So when I came in the next day I went back to buy it and behold the G5 was there. So I was thinking today, when will the G6 come out. Do people think it will be the first unit to have the light peak in it???

Is that a joke?
Mac Pros never came with G5 CPUs, the Power Macs had G3, G4 and G5 CPUs.
Mac Pros were introduced in 2006 and have Intel Xeon CPUs ever since.
So there will be no G6 Power Mac (not Mac Pro).
But an update to the current Mac Pro line is expected in the next two to three months with a six-core CPU called Gulftown.

I mean When not where... And it was a G5 power pc mac I got. It was not a joke, it was a question, I did not know it was beat to death so long ago. But nice to know I can have a conversation or ask a question with my fellow mac people :apple:

There is no G6. The G designation is not used to identify Intel-based Macs.
G3, G4, G5 Macs - these all used Motorola processors of the same name.
Since the switch to Intel processors, the use of G has fallen by the wayside. The G was never meant to indicate generations of products, the Gx referred to what type of processor the machine was built on.
So if you're asking when the next generation of Mac Pro will be available, I'm not sure. There are probably threads here speculating, and I think there's a purchase timeline guide somewhere on this site.

I wish apple would release the i7 mac pro as a PowerMac G6... throwback style...
but yeah, the G# models died several years ago, and will never come back...

There will never be a G6.
Where have you been? The G5 has been dead for a long time, along with the rest of the whole G series.
