Actually, you're the only one who doesn't make sense.
The 20" Display is $1299, not $1999.

Ok, Apple's priced the new 20-inch iMac at $1899, while the 20-inch Cinema display is $1999. So for a $100 (and a few pixels) less, I could still get a 20-inch LCD, but also with a computer behind it.

Am I the only one for whom that doesn't quite make sense?


Except that the 20" ACD is compatible with any computer with a DVI port... you can't remove the display from the iMac and use it on a newer computer. Limitation is the biggest factor here.
