View Full Version : August 23rd special Apple Store Event!

I was at the Aspen Grove store in Colorado, and my friend that worked there said the manager anounced that he got an email from corporate or something and they said that all of the employees had to work later than normal to unpack a "large multiple product" shipment. I am guessing that is the Jaguar, and it also hinted that there was something other than software boxes, some sort of Hardware, think that this is the new Powermacs? Might be announced tuesday and start shipping and in stores august 24th. Possibility?

If that's the case I'm glad I have my ticked reserved for the Apple events in Melbourne on the 27th of August! w00t! We'll be looking at the 'next generation of Apple hardware'...

I was just at the Clarendon store and its going to be a very cool event.
10:20 PM on the 23rd, 100 minutes of free gifts, great savings, theater demos, and the chance to win a Mac Until Midnight at the Apple Store
I'll be going and hopefully meeting jelloshotsrule there. I can't imagine they'd give a new PowerMac away, more likely the iMac LCD if we're lucky. I asked the employees there and no one seemed to know.
It will be crazy but I'm going for the chance to win something - even if its an apple shirt.

It's true, for sure. All stores. It was discussed in an earlier thread (though it wasn't there wwhen Bill started the thread). You can find more info at Apple's Retail page (http://www.apple.com/retail/).
You going, Bill? I have thought about it, but when I went to Aspen Grove the day it opened (just a few minutes before opening) there was a line around the building. There seem to be a lot of Mac folks around, and I've already pre-ordered 10.2. Not sure that the possibility of winning something is worth the hassle of the crowd...

I doubt that I will go. That I think will be a friday, the school weekend, and even though I am a big geek, as a normal fifteen year old, i try to keep a normal social life with my friends. LOL, I can't wait to order a copy though, they have it all the machines at aspen grove, I was there today, the new start up screen is pretty viscious!

Too bad, Asurace. That was never my policy. You do know it's 10:20 at night, right?
Funny, though--of the 3 of us, sounds like none of us will go. I could always change my mind at the last minute, but I doubt it. I'd probably go to the Cherry Creek store if it were open.

I called my apple store today, and they said that they wont find out what comp they're raffling off until 10:10 on the 23rd. Oh and they arent giving any thing away, they're raffling them off, which means you have to pay for each ticket.

i can't decide if i should go to the Roosevelt Field or SoHo store. i live in Brooklyn so the SoHo store is wicked close but Roosevelt Field will probably have less of a crowd which means better odds at winning some treats;) on the other hand, the SoHo store is awesome and may be a bigger event. hmmm....

Anyone going to either of that mall from MacRumors? I will let you guys know if i win a Mac. I missed an opportunity to buy Mac OS X for a discount at Amzaon..so i will be getting mine on 23rd from Apple Store direct.

Heres the thing about the gifts... dont expect much stuff for free... not even t-shirts... this is a free event... no registration necessary... this means that there could be 30,000 people in each store... maybe they'll give out stickers, or posters... but dont expect anything fancy... and for the last time, the "give aways" are raffles... most likely not free ones at that...

I wish i could go, I meen the stores are only and hour away and my Dad and Aunt were planning to go on the 24th, not the 23rd. I either go to the Short Hills store or the Tice's Corner store. Unless my older brother (who could drive :D) has one of his sudden change of heart and decides to take me to an Apple store and drop me off for the night I could go. THAT WOULD BE GREAT! Or I'll just give him a $5 and he MIGHT take me... I wish I could drive! AH! only a couple more weeks [Sept 23 {I'll be 16!}](then I can start to take the driving tests);)

It may only be a town of 100000, but they're forgetting about all the international traffic... The shopping center where best buy, office depot, and a couple other stores are was packed today. There was even a bus from Mexico there. And these guys have money. They pay for computers in cash at best buy... If only the CompUSA could be seen better, or if there was an Apple store :(
Anyways, I hope everyone going to these events has fun! It sounds like they're going to be packed...

I hear they are going to have lots of fun OSX themed games. One involves who can open the windows in the store the slowest. Whoever does wins a copy of 10.2
Another involves a game of throw the beachball, but behind the curtain a store employees has a tether connected to the ball from above and it then mysteriously floats above the players and spins endlessly.
In the back of the store will be a big barrel set up for a game of "bobbing for permissions." Players dunk their faces into a vat of defective G4 chips searching for the G5. If they find it, they have to guess the secret password, even though they already have to give the password to sign up for the game and before every dip into the barrel. The winner gets 35 cents off the DP 1.25 Ghz as long as they also buy a 23" Cinema HD display.
Another fun game will be, "Find the working scanner" in which dozens of mac/scanner combinations will be set up in a row and if the person figures out which one can scan in X naitively, they win a free day's use of .mac
In yet another fun game, players try to type so slow that Word v.X can keep up with their typing. Unfortunately, the mentally retarded orangatang with no fingers and toes who's there for the party still types too fast for Word to keep up, so nobody wins.
The grand finale is called "Alienate the Users" in which participants comes dressed as aliens and hurl insults and slurs at all the customers in the store, and try to steal wallets and purses. The winner is named "Queen Jobs for a Day" and and gets a free copy of 10.2 which is only installable on a non-upgraded PowerBook G3 233 (no L2 model).

So none of the three are thinking they'll go on Friday? I also preordered X.2 but I'm kinda curious about the stuff going on at Aspen Grove. I really enjoy going there but as I'm coming from Boulder its a 40 minute drive. :( oh well. Oh one of the guys there, whom I just blanked on his name, oh shoot, anyway, he's really great I've sat there and talked to him for hours, anyway, he said the Cherry Creek store will be open by year end. Where do you guys think it will be? At the Cherry Creek mall?
I was also at the opening and there was quite the line, I didnt get a shirt though :-( Just missed it, well if you guys do decide to go, tell me, we should meet!

I'm getting the new dual 1ghz!!! It better be great, because the cost of it and a 17inch lcd cost me half of my liver, a kindney, 10 pints of blood and my soul for 3 months in the year 2036.

I will be at the Jaguar release party... I am thinking that about half or a quarter the amount of people that showed up for the grand opening will be there (read: Still LOTS).
As a guy who worked at compUSA for the win95 release, I have to say that if apple DOESNT give out stuff and only raffles them, I will be sorely dissappointed. Our compUSA gave away SCADS of new computers etc that night. And, I dont believe it will be a raffle per'se due to the laws of the state. I would think that it would be a "drawing" rather that you get a ticket when you walk in, and at the end of the night, they read off the numbers (and you would have to be present to win).
I work that night, but I plan on asking my boss if I can cut out a few minutes early, and hit the road. I think that its gonna be a madhouse...
Anyhow, see all you illinois people in friday night. :)

If you are in the Minneapolis/St Paul region, you can save $30 on Jaguar and attend a 10:20 Sale. First Tech (http://www.firsttech.com/) , an Apple Specialist, is hosting a 10:20 event and is giving a special "upgrade" price on Jaguar. They are selling it for $109 on Friday night and all day Saturday.

I don't know about the other stores, but the party in Tampa was pretty lame. We were in line for 2 hours, and there wasn't anything for those waiting in line. Even once you got inside, it wasn't any different than just going to the Apple store any other time, except more people. I mean, the store is cool, and yes they did register us for a 17" iMac, and have 10% off anything you buy at the same time as Jaguar or a new Mac, but I wanted a party! That's what they advertised!
Oh well.
Anyone else have the same experience?

i was in the tampa store saturday afternoon (in FLA on vacation) and it was business as usual. i was a little surprised they would not sell it to students at a discount.... i have to go online or to a university bookstore for that

Oh well.

I had the same experience at roosevelt field. Although it was kinda fun. i didnt buy anything that night, but since i bought my 17" iMac the night before, he sales rep gave me a mousepad and teeshirt, so it was worth it:)

as for a party...
i stopped at an apple reseller in maryland on my way to the official apple store (clarendon) for the jaguar thing.... my brother and i entered the store... and a girl greets us, and hands us raffle tickets (still at the apple reseller). then i notice, she's wearing a hooters outfit. name tag and all..... i was like " what the #$#%#$?!" and also, they were playing the electric slide and there were all these middle aged geeks dancing like they knew how (which they didn't, not that i do)... it was funny as crap.
but the place was small and i got out of there as quick as i could.... blah
