Because I just got a powerbook during the cram + jam deal, I bought a 20gb ipod - with the intention of selling it or my current 20gb 3rd gen ipod that I've owned since March.

Problem is, I don't know which one to keep now! I have an idea of how much the 4th gen one would go on Ebay, but I don't know how much would be a fair asking price for the 3rd gen, were I to upgrade. I have a few friends who would may be interesting in buying the 3rd gen from me, but... should I? How much should I ask for?

Thanks. :)

Froogle (http://froogle.google.com/froogle) is your friend. Here is what their search came up with:

Click here (http://froogle.google.com/froogle?num=20&hl=en&lr=&tab=wf&q=g3+ipod+20+-leather+-case+-skin+-iskin&btnG=Search+Froogle)

I know the prices vary, but I hope it gives you an idea.

That's not exactly true.
Froogle is not that relevant.

Froogle tells you the prices that businesses are ASKING for things; not necessarily what people are willing to PAY for them. Some of those items will still be there months from now, at the prices being asked.

Froogle is what online retailers are asking, both new and used. Your right, some of those ipods could be there for months. Forget the expensive ones and look at the cheapest ones. Don't expect to get much more than the lowest price. Why would you buy an ipod for x price when you can get the same ipod for less online. Froogle is just a good place to find a starting price and negotiate down if need be.

You could always try http://www.ipodlounge.com too.

I would say assuming its in good condition, a 3G 20GB is worth about $175-$225 depending on accessories.

Sir, I have sold my 15 Gbs 3rd Gen ipod on ebay with a leather inCase case. that was 8 months old for $226 + $8.00 shipping on ebay. That was back about 40 days ago.

For a 20 GBs, 3rd Gen 20Gbs ipod in good condition and still with a good battery life, you should be able to get $215-$230 I think.

I'd recommed a 4th Gen because of simply extended battery life. Unless of course you are attracted to buttons lighting up in red :p :)

thanks all.. I still haven't decided which to keep and which to sell, but now that I have an estimated going-for rate I'll be able to see if my friends are interested. Sure would be easier to sell that way, instead of ebay.

I'm not sure if I'd like the new click wheel on the 4th generation. I went to a Comp USA to play with it, but of course they didn't have any on display. I might just sell that one, as it would get more money, and momma needs more RAM for her powerbook. :D
