It's great. Jaguar is great. A tad noisey...but I didn't buy this thing to look pretty. I got it to crank.

It is noisey...but I haven't used the old ones so I'm not able to compare it.
If you're in an otherwise silent room you can definatley hear the fan. I'm not going to lie...it is loud. Definatley a solid hum. But when you're working or music is happening...it is in the BG. (but still there)
But I think it is a minor problem compared to the dual processor action.
If silence is a big thing for you, get an iMac. :) I need to render QTs and effects as fast as possible though so it is DP for me.

Know of any good, FREE/Shareware benchmarking apps so that we can compare uae's NEW DP1Ghz with my "old" DP1Ghz (or anyone elses), it would be interesting to see the difference.

when did you order it? what time yesterday? or did you buy it an apple store? and did you get any extras in it, like more RAM or the NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti?
congrats.
(i happen to like the new design) hehehe...

I picked it up at the apple store today.
I would of had them put in more RAM but they didn't have any in stock.
As soon as they do I'll be getting some so it'll be more than 256 megs which is kinda low.
Just the 17inch monitor, apple speakers, and the box for now.
My first mac at home. I've used them for years at work though.

I have the old DP 1Ghz. It is more than a background hum! Even with an mp3 playing you can still hear the fans. However, it does not bother me, i just turn the volume up. It is a very solid machine.

Looks like someone beat me to experiencing one. :(
Check out my thoughts on the new PowerMac here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9564).

And Falleron, your old dual 1GHz happens to be every bit as powerful as the new DDR dual 1GHz. Check it out:

(I'm spreading this link to as many relevant threads as possible to get the word out on this! People think they're getting more performance with DDR when they really aren't! )

Congratulations!
Is Jaguar really noisy? Is it a roar or a purr? :D

Howzabout a new owner and an old owner run a set of Apple's benchmarking tools, so we can have some results not from a guy running macros with a stop watch.

It would be really nice if we could rally up a New 1GHz DP under 6c115, and an old 1GHz DP under 6c115...

i think barefeats was way too hasty to come to a conclusion. of course they didnt think that apple always makes it difficult to make a direct comparison.
the "old" dual GHz had 2MB of DDR cache per processor, the DDR dualies have "only" 1MB of DDR cache per processor.
yet they are able to maintain the same performance. that doesnt meant there is no difference in performance with Apple's implementation of DDR , nor does it mean that there IS a difference. Gotta love it.
