Hello all!

I just downloaded the new benchtool from santa duck for ut2004, and its great, it gave me some problems in the begining but i restarted and it worked

this time you get to choose high or low quality and what res, for up to 8 maps, and they have mobile becnhes and desktop benches, so it is set to run faster on lcds vs crts.

The coolest part is that they came out with a pc version, any pc ppl out there i strongly recomend you download the demo of ut2004, or if you have it great.

then get the benchtool from

http://www.santaduck.com

and post tour marks

here are mine:

- ctf-bridgeoffate 1024x768 max graphics – 9.874202 / 25.309643 / 72.312714 fps -- Score = 25.314833 rand[660630355]

- ctf-bridgeoffate 1024x768 lowest graphics – 10.902205 / 35.026184 / 86.763252 fps -- Score = 35.041138 rand[2043493410]

this is on my 1.33 ghz g4 powerbook with 768 mb ram and geforce fx 5200 go vid card, plz compare your scores to mine, by posting them up on here, itl be a great source for all the newbies to ut2004, to check out the different platforms and see which is faster, etc

thx

I remember SantaDuck was in here yesterday replying to a few threads. He may just reply to yours!

I don't know how consistent SantaDuck's benchmarking tools are. I vaguely remember someone saying they don't stay very consistent. I may be wrong though.

Consistency is due to mapchoice. My utilities just toss in a script, and UT just runs. Some outdoor maps (such as Antalus) are extremely inconsistent, and can vary up to 5 fps between runs. Indoor maps (such as Asbestos) are much more consistent, and vary perhaps by less than 0.3 frames per second.

Also my benchmarker was used by Apple to introduce the iMac G5: http://www.apple.com/imac/graphics.html. (Read the caption on the bar graph).

There has been some controversy of the claims by Apple, and the most extensive explanation has been at www.barefeats.com . The upshot is that Apple's performance marketing lab seems to have used the slowest iMac G4 LCD iMacs on the planet (either due to firmware revision, or some defect), resulting in inflated iMac G5 claims. However the iMac G5 is fast enough, so they don't have to worry.

Anyways, I've updated the toolpak at the request of barefeats.com. It now includes a botmatch benchmark for the Demo, as well as a workaround (read instructions) for a sort of Flyby for the Demo.

Comparison w/framerates with PCs is a touchy matter. First make sure you have the same patch (3339 now), and look in my documentation to make sure the botcounts, time, and detail settings are the same. I include some sample windows scripts if you want to use them to create your own.

For comparison of benchmarks among macs, you can check out the xlr8yourmac.com database here (http://forums.xlr8yourmac.com/fpsdb/fpsdb.lasso), but I don't think he tracks the patch version number, nor the max vs. min detail setting.

You can download the Toolpack here (http://www.macologist.org/dload.php?action=file&file_id=31). It also includes many other tools, use the DropUModOut application to install umod distributions of the various mods for UT2004, like Air Buccaneers. Come to www.macologist.org to request a OS X launcher (or use our universal applescript code to write your own).
