My iPhone just dropped and the screen is just about shattered. Everything still works fine but the screen has so many cracks going through it and there are many dents in the hardware. I know my warranty is up and I don't want to buy a new iPhone because I would have to renew contract immediately and my contract expires in 3 months and a new iPhone is rumored to release. If I bring it to an Apple Store or AT&T store, can they help me fix my problem? I am willing to pay at least $100 for fixing because I use it so much.

Odds are the only people that can tell you for sure are the Apple store people. This sounds beyond the realm of acceptable duct tape usage.

Trust me it is.

Use a secondary junker phone until the new iPhone is released. It broke at the perfect time. :)

I agree but there is no confirmation to its release. I can't use a junk phone b/c I am too used to iPhone it still works it is just annoying to see huge cracks on the screen

Are you worried about the screen falling out?
Yeah this may not be a job for duct tape, but what about a clear tape? Try to get some clear tape and wrap the whole screen in that, or get a screen protector (Although it may. be a little late for that, it will keep it useable.)

I am getting used to the crack and I might be ok. Fixing by myself is hard according to youtube videos. Apple will probably charge about $200 since my warranty expired. Also the new iPhone is supposedly coming out in summer. I refuse to buy iPhone 3G because small updates are not worth $200 and EDGE really is not as slow as some might think. New iPhone is rumored to have better internal memory and video recording. I can wait 3 months. Still, if you have any suggestions or comments, feel free to reply.

If they are just dents..... JUST dents then you can relax since its not going to come out on you so easily! As for the glass screen.... I've seen a friend's shattered and he's still using it without a problem. In fact if he bumps up the brightness the cracks are hardly visible...
Maybe you could try the invisible shield...
But taking it to Apple is going to cost a lot more than $100 and it definitely is foolishness to buy a new iPhone at the moment!

Screen protectors are a good idea but it makes the screen look too glossy and it has air bubbles if not put on right. I had one for my PSP and I took it off after a while. I am also considering a case. I spent $50 on a crappy case. My phone kept falling out of it and that made it dent a bit(this is way be4 the cracks) I would like a case that fits on the phone instead of one that stays on your waist but I like the feeling of the phone itself. I do not wanna feel rubber but plastic (not a plastic case either lol.) I should just force myself into buying one once I get the new iPhone in 3 months.
I was just gently pressing down on the upper left corner which is the most cracked and a few glass shards fell. There is a little bit of metal showing which i am guessing is the inside of the phone if all glass is cleared. Is it bad if that is a tiny bit exposed and I if I wear tight clothing that squeezes the phone when in my pocket, will more glass fall?

Wow... umm thats bad! Real bad!
Even if it might be OK for the phone (and I cant see how) you still risk cuts and smaller the glass pieces, more the risk! I strongly recommend dumping it for spare parts on ebay and getting a substitute phone. Then queue up in July!

Check craigslist, should be around $100 to replace the glass.

Im in the same boat as you. I was wondering if anyone has tried this place? Its the cheapest price that I have seen for a replacement screen.

I thought Apple had a replacement policy; I'm not exactly sure what it is, but I saw someone bring in a completely shattered 3G, and he payed some nominal fee (a lot less than the $600 for a new replacement), and they replaced it with a refurb (of course they kept his shattered phone)...it may be worth a try?

I can recommend them. I cracked the screen on my MacBook Pro and they fixed it for me.
