I have a macbook 2.16ghz that i bought in june of '07.

Unfortunately, i am out of warranty, and my top case (keyboard area) is cracking where the spacers meet the keyboard.

I'm looking to replace the top case with possibly a black one (only because it would look cool), however I can only find the new versions (with the different set of f-keys).

Are these new and old versions of keyboard interchangeable? or do i need to buy one that was made specifically for my model?

Thanks!

I know the old case will work on the new ones, maybe it will work the other way around as well?

It might be in the software in Mac OS X that determines which keyboard it is (that's what I speculate)...

I'd assume that just like you can use the new aluminium keyboards with a 2006 Mac Mini with no complaints (all functions work) that the same would be said for the MacBook keyboard. As long as you download the updated keyboard drivers for the aluminium keyboards (you may need to plug one in to see the option in Software Update) it should be okay. In theory.
