Safari and Secure Websites?

I have been using Safari faithfully since it was released, and in the last week it has developed a strange problem. I can't recall doing anything different that would have caused this problem, but now whenever I try to load a secure website (https), I get the error message "Safari could not load the page https:xxxx because it could not connect to the server." I have tried resetting Safari, but that didn't fix the problem. I have also thrown away the following files (Safari_1.2.pkg, Safari (folder), Safari (application), and com.apple.Safari.plist) and reinstalling a new version of Safari, also without success. I should add that Internet Explorer will always load the pages that choke Safari, but I hate using this program. Has anyone ever heard of this before, and does anyone know how to fix it? Safari & https - SSL

I have been having some intermittent problems with people getting access to one of my sites. I tested the site using a Mac and got the following message when using Safari (?? I think it was 1.2 ?? - sorry):

"Cannot connect to secure server"

All PC browsers allowed access, and IE for Mac allowed access.

SOLUTION

I reset the clock on the desktop Mac (it was off by 6 minutes). It was locked off for some reason. Apple says that this is a problem with SSL and Safari because Safari verifies the clock of the server against its internal clock as a silly security feature.

Updating the clock alone didn't fix the problem UNTIL I CLEARED MY CACHE!!!!!

Therefore, try resetting the time and clear the cache.

This possibly explains the tempermental nature of this error message, and why even people with the exact same setups are not always getting this error.

Safari and secure Websites?

I had the same problem and found out it was the Little Snitch program...I deleted the program and reinstalled and it works like a charm.

I tried everything from all of the other boards for days and nothing worked...and removing Little Snitch worked.
