If you're actually on the iMac you want to measure, you can use Activity Monitor and select "Network"

Otherwise, I use "Airport Flow (http://www.memention.com/airportflow/)" to monitor transfers going to my :apple:tv.

Thanks for your response, but how can I gauge the transfer speed for my iPhone vs my iMac? The reason I want to find out is that in airport utility under wireless clients my iMac shows a Rate of 130 and the iPhone's Rate is 54. I want to verify what that rate of measure actually means, is it transfer rate (speed) or what?

130 Mbps is the transfer rate for 2.4 GHz wireless N devices.
54 Mbps is the transfer rate for wireless G devices.
Your iMac is wireless N.
Your iPhone is wireless G.
Both of these are the theoretical maximum transfer rates for said devices.
Depending on interference, signal strength, network congestion etc., your mileage may vary.

On the airport extremes (running only N or simultaneous dual band) I believe they will cap out at 300 Mega bits per second.

You believe right :p 802.11n 5GHz has a maximum transfer rate of 300 Mbps, but again that depends on interference, signal strength, and other factors.

Ya I believe it is 300mbps...but I'd LOVE to see anybody who can get that for a sustained amount of time. Mine fluctuates between 150-200 for the most part with random spikes for 5-10 seconds up to 290ish.
