Just want to say I can't be more pleased with my new Mac Mini 2.26. The thing is lightning fast, dead silent, and has the footprint not much larger than our cat's. I got to chose what monitor I wanted, and it works beautifully with the Mini. Best investment in technology in a long time.

Thanks all. Used here as primary and only desktop for everyday internet, streaming video, music library, file system. It should be great as HTPC, which I plan on doing as well.

I bought mine as an HTPC aswell, however, running into a problem with the video. Once the OS loads, the screen has a 2 inch border around the entire screen. I'm using a DVI to HDMI converter on a 62" rear projection TV. Now, I know it's not technically supported, but what gives?? I love the little machine and it is lightning fast, I just wish it filled the screen. Odd thing is, it does fill the screen, UP until the login process happens...then screen flickers and it's reduced down. Overscan sets the limits too much and I lose the menu bar and parts of the icons. Any ideas??

Have you tried to adjust your TV's aspect ratio. Some TV's have a native setting that give you a pixel for pixel adjustment to full screen others you just have to kind of mess with. Mine didnt give me a pixel for pixel so I just turned on the overscan I loose a tiny bit of picture but it still very workable.

I love this Wicked little box, but I opted not to spend the extra $150 for the CPU and went with the 2.0/2GB/320GB HD then I upgraded the ram on my own with Crucial $69 shipped as opposed to Apple charging me $150.00 just for the ram :eek:

I purchased the Apple Wired Keyboard and Wireless Mighty Mouse, however I stopped using the mouse I always use my Logitech Micro Nano mouse, this thing is the best mouse I have ever owned and I have had quite a few over the last 20 years. I am also using my 22" Gateway Widescreen HDMI LCD which works fine, I no longer use Windows PC's but I kept the monitor and when it goes, I will more then likely buy the Apple 24".

They are silent, originally purchased for my wife since I have the new Uni MacBook, however to make media work etc, etc, I kept both :rolleyes: and she continues to use her Windows Vista Laptop :eek:

One thing is the Slot Loading Drive is noisy but after I import all my CD's I more then likely will not have much use for it anyway.

Definately a good computer. I have the old 1.83 with 1 gig of ram and a terrible graphics card and I love it. Runs awesome and smooth, with only an occasional freeze or hiccup. Plus its easy as hell to bring places. The only thing I dont like about it is that it makes me want the new aluminum macbook so much more!!!!

He's right, the whining levels in this thread are far too low.

Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh, I got my mini a day or so after it came out, and it suuuuuuuuuuucks! It's not *anywhere* near as powerful as the Mac Pro, and I can't fit my customary 2TB of disk storage inside that, of course, *any* person needs, even for web browsing. And only 4gigs of RAM? WTF is Apple thinking? Everyone knows that's like the bare minimum for doing things. The thing's a ripoff, I'm never buying another Apple product again. Screw that.

congrats. I've had one (2.0/4 GB/320 GB @7200) for about 2 weeks and so far it's been great. It's acting as a HTPC and doing a damn fine job of it. :)

Please owners of the new mac mini 2009, share your experience about:

*the quality of the sound- i know that inside is Realtek ALC889 chip-it is good?
*The DVD drive is noisy playing regular DVD?
*there is any hardware acceleration on video? mpeg-2 or h264 beside those video, created by QuickTime? Are you able to play h264 streams without 100% CPU load? I mean regular HD video... no blu-ray.

I agree... I got a new 2.26 mini and bumped the RAM to 4GB (overkill btw) for Plex.

Liked it so much I just bought a 2.0 model, same RAM upgrade, for my mom.
