iPod touch iPod touch charging issue

I'm wondering why my ipod, when plugged into my unibody MB, sometimes charges and sometimes it doesn't. For instance, The MB will be plugged in, and asleep. I'll plug in the ipod and it will charge no problem. Other times it only starts to charge when the MB is awake. Does anyone else have this issue, or am I missing something?

it must be a battery issue.
try installing a new battery.

Try charging using something else rather than the macbook...

I think it might have to do if the MacBook is plugged in or not. I find it to charge at random times too when it is closed. It always charges if its is open.
