Hey all,
Please excuse the dumb question.
Just built a killer IMac 24 3.06 which is to arrive tomorrow. I elected to go with 4GB of RAM with the intention of buying 3rd party RAM to max out at 8GB. The issue is I don't understand how to get to the 8GB. Do I need to just purchase 4GB more of RAM or do I need to take out the existing 4GB and buy 8 GB separately? If I do have to rip out the 4BG and purchase the 8GB what do folks do with the factory installed 4GB? Was I an idiot for not just upgrading to the 8GB to begin with?
Thanks everyone!

I guess the question is. Do you really need 8GB RAM?

you need to remove the old ram to put in 8 gb you need 2X4gb sticks. I would keep the factory ram just in case you have a problem with your imac. apple likes to blame 3rd party ram for every little problem. just put it back in before taking it to the store. the good news is you saved yourself about $300 by going with 3rd party ram.
this kit should work in your computer.

Thanks guys. Guess it was a little bit of a boneheaded move thinking I would just add the 4GB to my already 4GB for a lot cheaper. Thanks for the links Jbrenn & MacAndy!

Yep
Thank you for the resources, but I still couldn't find an answer to the question? Do I need to order 4 more GB or do I need to remove the 4GB the IMac comes with and replace it with 8GB?
Well the above post was right and he told you exactly that you need to buy 2 X 4gig sticks.
