View Full Version : Removing the lyrics from a song

Hi guys,

I'm trying to remove the lyrics from the song "On A Day Like This" by Elbow. I've tried the Audacity trick where you split the track into left and right, then invert one of them and switch them both to mono... this has worked to some extent, but not massively. There is still some vocal in the background from the echo applied to the track, and near the end of it the back-up singers are still singing loud and clear.

My sister wants the instrumental to be playing at her wedding as she and her husband-to-be walk out. Does anyone have any tips as to how I can achieve this?

Many thanks,

Luke

the way good DJs do it, is they get the track with out vocals from the label / artist. ... or recreate it, that's the only way. The only trick there is is what you've already tried.

Ask Elbow for an instrumental version.

There's pretty much no other way of getting a prefect version.

Ohh I see. Thanks for the reply :)

Was that a sarcastic comment or are you actually suggesting I do that? I'd never heard of this band before she asked me, so I dont know whether that is something which is actually do-able?

Try it. You've got nothing to lose.
Just explain the situation, you never know...

actually there is a third trick that I use alot which is picking and choosing pieces of just instruments playing in the track, then puting them back and looping them. I'll have a go at this tomorrow and report back. Seems like it wouldn't be a hard one.

The other way to do this, for popular songs anyway, is to search for a karaoke version of the song.

how about hiring a local band to try to play the song live, during the wedding?

The best way i know how to do it, is get it from a label, or producer. odds are, your going to pay a shiny penny to get it. Lamb Of God did a 'producer' album, which i got and has all the songs split into different instruments..
