View Full Version : How to fix a messed up music library?

During all those years that I burned CD's, downloaded music and changed hard drives, I really messed up my whole music collection. Right now my iTunes folder is located in the Music folder with all my music located in one or both of these two. (Some of my music is located only in my iTunes folder. Some of the albums have double copies; one in the iTunes other in the Music folder. Some are only located in the Music folder and some of those are not visible in my iTunes library.)

I am planning to reorganize my iTunes folder and to delete all the duplicate copies but I don't want to accidentally lose any of my music during the process. I feel like the best thing to do is copy the files in the Music folder and paste them into iTunes folder. That way I will easily find the duplicates and transfer the rest of my music.

On the other hand, it seems too easy to be the correct way to do it and I am not sure if my iTunes library will recognize the relocated music.

Can any one confirm that it's a safe method? Or, is there a better/easier way to organize music folders?
