Hello fellow Mac users. I was wondering if anyone out there has any experience with MacScan security software. Is it legit? Is it worthwhile? Does anyone have any suggestions for security software. I am an airline pilot and never leave home without my trusty mac. I want to keep it safe.

Any ideas???

Thanks.

I wouldn't bother with anything like that, at least for now. Trojans/Viruses/Malware are virtually non existant for the Mac OS. The only trojans out there require you to manually download them (usually infected iLife/iWork copies, illegal downloads mind you) and then install them, again, manually (they install with the illegal software, but it's manual nonetheless).

Just set a strong password for the system preferences and lock it down with the built-in sharing settings and whatnot and you'll be fine.

It really depends on a number of things...

- Don't install pirated software (which is how the trojans that are out there now are distributed)

- If you run Windows either in virtualization or in Bootcamp, you should protect Windows like you normally do.

Other than that, if you really want to be safe, you can install some antivirus such as AVG, but it won't do much for you. MacScan is kind of a waste of time.

Well you might want Undercover

As to anti-virus, THERE ARE NO VIRUSES on OSX.
Since there are no viruses, anti-virus cannot determine what is a virus at this time.

Thanks for the information. I am new to the mac world and am a little concerned based upon my experiences in the past with pcs.

Have a great day.
