I've just picked up a clamshell iBook for my wife. She didn't want anything much and was really keen on the clamshell.

Apple say 128Mb...but is that enough? Currently it's got 64Mb. It wont be used for anything much. Mainly just Appleworks and iCal.

Also, it's PC66 memory but I can only get PC100 or PC133. Will PC133 work ok in it (it's cheaper)?

Also, is it possible to disable some Panther features to improve performance? (tho I don't think for what she's doing, performance issues will be noticeable)

thanks

Nothing less then 256, 512 if you can. The extra ram will help ease the load on the G3 inside it. PC66 is actually slower, older ram, the 100 or 133 SHOULD run just fine, they just will run at a slower speed than the chips themselves are advertised (similar to how you can plug USB 1.1 drives into USB 2.0 and run them, albeit at the 1.1 speed).

I've been using an iBook 466mhz with 320 mb ram on Panther for 3 months and i don't have any speed issues, i would think another 256 mb would be enough even with a 366mhz iBook.
