Go for 2008 model. Its GPU it's a lot better because it's not intergraded. '08 model is cheaper too.

I am basing this off of personal experience (software + hardware), released footage of sc2:

sc2 will bring the 9400m to its knees. Most will probably find the frame rate to low to be considered playable at medium to low settings. Medium settings might even be out of the question.

If your buying hardware specifically for sc2, then wait until launch for possible graphic hardware updates or price reductions on higher-end models.

By this logic, I'd be better off going back to the PC I had in high school than trying to game on the new iMac.

the system requirement for SC2 is not out yet, but judging from past titles, I think the requirement will not be high and 9400m will be able to handle it.

If you can still get the 2008 imac with discrete gfx card (2600 or 8800GS), you should probably get it over the 2009 9400m imac. I myself have a 2008 3.06GHz 8800GS imac and the performance seems to be between the 2009 imac GT120 and GT130 and I paid money less than the 2009 9400m imac for mine. :D

Definitely get an iMac with a discrete GPU, be it last year's model or one of the 2009 ones. I just bought the 2.93 GHz iMac, as it comes with the nVidia 120. I have found it to be very good at fairly demanding games.

Doom 3 runs pretty flawlessly on this hardware.

Doom 3 isn't demanding... it's from 2004.

SC2 will run on the 9400m, but probably on low settings and a lower resolution than 1920*1200. The HD2600 iMac probably won't be able to run it very well at 1920*1200 either.

Spending the extra $ to get the previous generation iMac refurbished with the 8800 GS card would be a good way to go...
