I woke up today and noticed this on my Macbook. Doesn't appear to be "Water damaged" although I am not sure. It works fine, nothing was wet near it so that's why I am ruling out the possibility of liquid damage. Just appearance is the only thing wrong with it (those marks) Any idea what it is and how to remove it? Should I be worried? Thank you.

That sort of looks like the dirt that appears on the palm rests on my Macbook. Use a little bit of iKlear and it'll be gone in a couple of seconds. I never really know what it is, but I reckon on the palm rest it is probably sweat or something. Not sure what it could be on the outside... have you been carrying the computer around without a case?

Alright guys thanks, this makes me feel so much better knowing that it is not damaged in any way, only by appearance.

That looks an awful lot like sweat from your hands. Try, um, getting a paper towel wet and wiping it off. That should do the trick.

Do you live near the ocean? I've seen aluminum react like that to salt air.

I have to agree with this. 🙁

By the way, the OP might also want to take extra care while wiping his/her MB to reduce the chances of accidentally putting scratches on it. Good luck. 🙂

+1

Although you have to be doing something terribly wrong to scratch the lid with a paper towel. I second the statement that its either salty air, or sweat from your hands.
