I've got a unibody MB with an LG GS21N superdrive with SA17 firmware. There is a patched firmware here: http://files.rpc1.org/index.php?act=category&id=1784

The file is a windows .exe file that runs the updater - is there any way to flash the drive from OS X? I don't want to have to install Windows in Boot camp just to flash the drive.

Is there any reason you NEED to patch the firmware?

If the drive is running fine, leave it be.

This doesn't have anything to do with burning Wii games does it? Not that I really care, but I would recommend to leave your drive alone and get your Wii fix somehow else.

A firmware patch is the only way to play DVDs from multiple regions on newer drives.

Ah.

I didn't realize that, since I've never had that situation arise. Thanks for the heads-up! :)
