Probably a paid placement, courtesy of our friends in Cupertino. What difference does it make to a prop master what computer the actor uses? It's a PROP, no actual computing involved.
Apple, imho, paid for the placement of the computer.
Producers care. Producers are "paid" to care.
Prop master probably doesn't care but I bet the set designer does.
If the logo is covered Apple certainly didn't pay for it to be there.
Payment for product placement is a two way street. Some times the show/film pays for the right to use a specific product in their project and some times a show/film gets paid to use a specific product (or the product is donated). Bascially whichever side bennefits the most from the others help is the one that pays.
In the case where logo's are hidden/not shown it was most likely a case of someone going, "Bob needs a sleek and stylish computer." So they toss a PB on his desk, but no one wants to pay Apple for using their product, or no one wants to give Apple free advertising, or Apple refused to let them "use" the Apple logo so, for what ever reason, the logo is never seen.
